I think the main caps have a different height to them making the bolts longer on one motor (probably the b16). I just ordered a set of ARP main studs for my current project, and it says it fits b18a1,b18b1, and b20's only. Don't know if that helps any or not...I'll find out for sure in a few days when I start ripping down my old b16 block.
even if the bolts may be slightly shorter, can i still get away with them, reliably, assuming they have been torqued to spec?
BLIZUMP...
WELL I TOOK A LOOK AT THE B16 MAIN CAPS AND THEY ARE INDEED A LITTLE SHORTER THAN THE B18A CAPS...
CAN A SHORTER BOLT STILL BE TORQUED CORRECTLY IN THIS APPLICATION

well i was looking at the b16 bolts and caps today and noticed that 8 of them are the same length and the two for the main bearing cap were a bit longer than the rest....i dont have the b18 caps with me cuz i forgot to bring em back from the machine shop, but if memory serves correc thte b18 cap is probably 1/8-1/4 inch longer than the b16 cap...
so my question again isssssss.....
does the bolt have to reach the end of the thread to be torqued to spec or can it still be torqued properly without reaching the end???...for instance if it was 1/8-1/4 inch short
DON?????

sup guys.im not sure if anybody is even lookin at this thread anymore, but i had some free time today and swung by the shop and compared the caps from the b16 and b18.
they are indeed the same height throughout...even the 3 cap that some were unsure on is the same between both the b16 and b18....pretty much caps 1 2 4 5 use the same length bolts and 3 is the only cap that uses longer bolts...but they are the same between the two blocks, so if anybody else may find this info usefull maybe it would be a good idea to archive this thread...im not sure how to go about doing that, but if anybody else does, go for it.
