Default egt responding very slowly.

hello everyone.

so i got a used autometer egt (pro comp\ultralite). tapped to the 3rd cyl about 1.5" from the head.

i never had a egt on my car before but i think this gauge is responding very slowly.

for example.... lets say i was at wot @1200f and then i leave the throttle compleatly.it takes the gaugeabout 4-6 seconds to go back to 700-800, is that ok? , i mean... should it respod instantly? or does it have somekind of delay?

anyone ever experienced this?

thanks.

That sounds about right.. It wont go back quick because its the exhaust temp that is slowly cooling down when you let off the gas..

Different types of probes react differently as well.

Some probes react way quicker but don't last as long till they need replacing.

several seconds is not uncommon.
