my s2k..
Just bought an 07 s2k!! Did you guys really wait 5000 miles for your first oil change? Sounds kind of late if you ask me considering its not synthetic and that I normally change oil every 3k regardless. Do they put some sort of magic oil in it from the factory?? O yea and if u dont change ur oil @ the dealer do they void the warranty? sorry for the 21 questions
I just added pix at the bottom of the page with another post.

well most cars manufactured today under quality processes will recommend that under NORMAL driving habits, you change your oil anywhere between 5k and 7500 miles. Under severe driving habits, its 3750 miles. look in your owner's manual. They put in regular oil from the factory. Todays engines are just better sealed and are better suited to run on the same oil for longer. Even my 99 GSR has the 7500/3750mile oil change interval, respectively.
Oil in older cars (or cars with crappy maching used for the engine) used to get contaminated earlier due to more blow-by and other problems associated with old school machining tactics. look up "chevy cavalier" in the dictionary for an example of a crappy car.
Anyway, I change my oil every 3k because i dont drive normally lol. I mean i dont drive like a jerk on the street or anything, but i do like sound of 9k pinging off fences and retaining walls and tunnels.....tunnels are the best.
Anyway, I change mine with MOBIL1 (synthetic because the oil does take a lot of heat in these motors due to high rpm and the oil being used to cool the pistons, etc) every 3k. I also change the oil after every track event even if the oil is only 1500 miles old. 30 bucks isnt much to pay to keep it clean, yo (i do my own oil changes....and get hook ups on filters).
However, it wouldnt be a bad idea to do your 1st oil change within 1500 miles since new engines have a lot of metal shavings ...from...being new.

I bought my 07 s2k in late dec.. (about 5 months ago) and only have 740 miles on it. When I went to the dealer for a oil change they said I didnt "really" need one till 5K, but it was really my choice. I told them I was proably going to put 5K on my car like in 2 years lol (since I dont really drive it that often) So I went ahead and got it. Since I dont daily drive my car and proably wont put the recommended 3K miles before a oil change, Ill still be getting one every 3-5 months regardless. Maybe I dont need one but it makes me feel better than my oil isnt "old" lol.. congrats on the car

wait till 4000 - 5000 miles to do your first oil change... they add some detergent from the factory to clean out all the cam lube, ect.
once you ready to do your first oil change, make sure to drain it thoroughly.. then switch to synthetic oil whichever brand you prefer..

I would wait as well. More because they do use conventional oil. If I'm not mistaken, the owners manual says to refrain from free reving the engine and taching it out. I think thats what mine says. Just like Honda's mototrcycle engines. Proper break in time to seat the rings and such. Use the time to get used to the handling characteristics of the car. It sucks to wait but ounce of prevention and all.
So some are saying wait, others are saying go ahead and change early. One says change to synthetic. I have heard to wait a little before going synthetic. Is this true? I prefer to run synthetic but I dont wanna be replacing seals left and right.
Anyways heres some real pix...

black and red gutz....=P

i changed my to synthetic at 5k miles, well i bought it a 2005 s2000 from the previous owner with 2k miles and i drove it until 5k then changed it to synthetic. Honestly I didn't know it was synthetic until it was too late though. I specifically told those guys at honda to put non synthetic but all they had were quaker state 5W20 or something?? I dunno but they didn't have what I wanted and it was too late and I was pissed. I wanted to wait till 10k to use synthetic but oh well nothing I can do, now i use mobil1 full synthetic.
