Default clutch problem EXEDY!!! ON EF 1991 SI!! PLS. HELP!!

I BOUGHT AN EXEDY CLUTCH KIT WITH EVERYTHING. im putting it on right now. I already check if it was the same as the old one and it was, it was just slightly different. The clutch went on okay, But when i tried putting on the Transmission it wouldn't go in all the way. I took it out and tried to check if the clutch disc would slide right in the tranny but i wouldn't slide smootly as the old one. Can anyone help me please!!??

I just had this same problem. Does your alingment tool NOT slide in you clutch disk with little pressure? If not you probably did not get the disk lined up correctly and the pressure plate is probably mount on top of the disk slightly. Take the pressure plate and disk back off. Put you alingment tool in the disk and start two bolts on the pressure plate. Now check to make sure that the tool will slide freely in the clutch disk but don't pull the tool so far out that it comes out of the grooves. Try that and see what happens.

Didnt slide smoothly or didnt fit?

Sometimes the input shaft will get a corrosion on them over time which will tend to make them a little more snug in the clutch disk. You can try a metal wire brush to get off any of the loose corrosion/caked on clutch dust and try again. If the clutch disk will slide on but needs a little force, you're going to have to pay close attention to the alignment of the disk. Once you get the input shaft seated in the clutch disk, you can usually start tightening the tranny bolts (evenly, starting at the top) and it will normally suck the tranny up to the engine.

also if you've been trying for awhile, you could have messed up the splines on the clutch disk a little... that's what i did... cleaned them up, and everything worked a lot better.

put some grease on the teeth, maybe it will help, and make sure you has the pilot bearing on your flywheel too, its a pretty perfect fit, but being calm and relax helps alot also, dont let frustation set in

im the same person im just using a different User name. It looks like the teeth in the hole of the clutch disc is a little bigger than the one i had before. The tranny slides in through the hole of the old clutch disc easily . the new clutch disc doesnt slide right in. I was thinking Filing the teeth so it can actually fit in the tranny will that work??

why dont you make sure you got the right clutch befor you go hacking it up. every time i put in a new clutch, the tranny slipped right back on no problem

why dont you get a clutch thats made for your car instead of doing some ghetto **** like trying to modify it and in turn probubly messing up your tranny or motor

What year car did you buy the clutch for? The spline count is different on the 89 (the 88 might also be different) compared to the 90-91.

89 has the same spline count as a 90-91 tranny but the clutch surface for 89 is smaller then 90-91.
