Purchasing car on HT?!
Hello,
I'm new to the forum & need advise from forum "veterans". I'm looking to purchase either a nice Acura Integra or Honda Civic (EK Coupe preferred) that has been built & boosted & running properly. This would be my FIRST honda vehicle. What kind of things should I look out for? Which buyers should I stay away from? How to best purchase a vehicle that is not local? How can I post in the vehicle for sale section? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
D

well, the main thing with boosted cars is checking for oil leaks and smoking. I'd also do a compressoin test on the casr to make sure everything is good across the board, fromt that point it's just a matter of doing everything else when looking to buy a used car.
on the test drive be sure to shift all throughout the RPMs....some times you'll end up finding horrible grind(S) in the upper RPMs in which case the synchros are either going out or already gone

NO, but I would get up into the VTEC range and shift somewhere in there

Yeah just make sure you get a look at the car. Check for leaks, do the usual check ups. If you're car noob, just bring a friend with mroe expertise or someone with more "Authority" I should say, with cars. I brought a couple of my friends who work for Honda to check out the cars that I buy but of course, they don't say who they are. As for scammers, just type in their real name or their H-T user name on google and on H-T to get background info on them.
Besides the usual repair items you'll find on a 120k mile car, its mainly the synchros in 2nd and 3rd gear, rear trailing arm bushings (from lowering it), rear subframe damage (big swaybar w/o reinforcement kit), and the usual turbo problems - turbo shaftplay, smoking, bad idle, leaking exhaust. Many people will slap it together, get it running okay, then get fed up & sell it after running it like crap for a while.
My honest opinion is that you shouldn't drive a boosted honda until you know everything about turbocharging. Its not like an Evo or STi where you have 15 gigantic forums dedicated to the Factory Turbo system.

also drop the pan that is a must on all turo or raced out cars half of these cars on here wither have ground down gears, bearings ready to spin, motors half assdly built, just look over and if it LOOKS like the seller cut corners turn around and look for another car
