Default Crankshaft pulley replacement (6th gen 4cyl)

Hey there fellows

I'll be doing a t-belt job soon and at the same time i was thinking of replacing my stock crankshaft pulley with a Unorthodox one that i bought a long time ago..

I'm aware it's gonna be a b*tch to take off, but do i need anything special as in seals, gasket, adaptors? (except the special tool to remove the pulley bolt)

thank you

Might want a torch to help get the bolt out. I needed it since I didn't have the special tool.

A torch on the crank pulley bolt?? Good lord.

A long breaker bar and the crank pulley tool should be all you need. Either that or just a strong impact gun (not a crappy 240 ft/lb one).

get the crank pulley tool
use a huge 20'' extentsion into the 19mm crank pulley bolt
RTV around waterpump gasket for good seal

if you don't want to spend the 110 on the tool you can borrow mine with a deposit + shipping both ways-that offer goes out to anybody

$110! For what tool? The crank pulley holding tool?

Sorry if you paid that much cause thats WAY too much to spend for that tool. You can buy it at Honda for like $80. I bought mine for something like $39 from TheToolWarehouse.

Where did you buy your from and by what manufacturer?

You can loan a big breaker bar (close to 3ft long) from Autozone with $20 deposit. Once you're done with it, return and get your deposit back. You can also loan the crankpulley puller too.

You can get a 4 Foot Breaker Bar from Harborfrieght for 15 bucks

I would just Spray the **** out of the bolt with wd40 then use the breaker bar and bust the bolt off...

Impact gun is the way to go. and 240 FT-LBS IS A LOT!!!! I'm sure if he was saying about 240 in-lbs. Anyways if it's rusty, PB blaster it. And you should be good. Good luck! Tell me how well it works. I might get one.

EDIT* don't get a breaker bar from autozone. I got llike a 3ft one from Autozone. I bought it and when I was taking off the spindle nut (axle) it broke. Breaker bar? Not too good. Especially if it's rusted. Plus the contracting and expanding of the metal would have made the bolt stuck in there.

most 240ft-lb impact guns wont even budge a crank pulley bolt, unless maybe it was just torqued down recently.

i wouldnt even bother with the crank pulley bolt without a 500+ ft-lb gun

no I meant what I said. Have you ever tried to take off a crank pulley bolt that has been there for 5+ years? good luck w/ 240 ft/lbs.

you sure you're thinking about the right part? You can get pulley/hub puller from autozone but not the crank pulley holding tool for Honda's, atleast not in my area. I looked everywhere before buying mine years ago, I could find anyone locally that sold or rented that tool, hell most of them had no clue what I was referring to.

Just to make sure, this is the tool we are referring to...

looks like the style changed a bit from when I bought mine but you get the idea

Many would recommend NOT installing an aftermarket crank pulley. People have had problems directly related to them. Search

alright, ill do my research for the crank pulley problems.. the guy i bought it from had it on his accord for a while and didnt run into any problems.. but you never know! My engine is at 217k km so i'm not too worried, especially if it would be damaged after long term use..

As for the tool, for 30$ +tx i can get one at Canadian Tire (im in quebec lol) but it doesnt look like the one pictured in this thread. I have 2 breaker bars, 1/2" drive, one is about 2 feet and the other 3 or 4.. Plus i have some pipes i can use as extensions. I did remove my spindle nuts with the shorter one and a 6ft lead pipe with extension, without problems Just make sure to bang out the "locking" dent in the nut, and you are set to go!

So apart all this, i dont need anything special to reinstall an aftermarket crankshaft pulley? if no, well good

thanks all

Correct me if I'm wrong but the UR crank pulleys don't have that hex inside it like the OEM crank pulleys do they? If they don't, how are you supposed to hold them during installation of the crank bolt?

i read somewhere you can use those strap wrenches, who knows about that, more or less a belt wrapped around the pulley, anybody tried that?

i'm not exactly sure about the hex.., it's somewhere in the garage.. i guess i'll figure it out when i try installing it!! i'll be taking some pictures too so i can compare both and post em up later on....

for the strap wrench, it's an idea.. but i dont know it it would be good enough to hold it up..after all it's torqued @ 180lb/ft + rust and **** not helping..
