Build d17a2
Ive figured that k series is just out of my price range and homemadeturbo on a d17a2 would be most practical. For a practical 220-230ish whp on 12psi i think i may just do rods, low comp pistons, acl bearings. And maybe some better vavle springs with a race cam. I would like it to be streetable and such, to get to the whole point on this thread. Who here has built our d17 internals and where would you suggest not going cheap(i.e. the weak part of the motor that should not be over seen)
Why would you want to go cheap on building our motor??? If your looking for a reliable car engine work is not somewhere you wanna go cheap on. im about to spend 7500 just to turbo mine then another 4000 to build it... but its your motor ... your car...Here is a thread on building the d17 the correct way...

You cant build it cheap, because there's really only one of everything that you can buy.
Only wiseco makes slugs, they're around 450
Only crower makes rods, they're about 700
only crower makes camshafts they're in the 300s and you need a set of VS&R which, regardless of which one you buy, all cost around 300 bucks.
By the time you're done, you'll have $3500 in the motor.
