Default rear shoes

Can the rear shoes be adjusted thru the back of the hub? There is that little slot with a rubber cap, but it's no where near the adjusting screw. I was going to take off my drums today to inspect the brakes and tried beating the crap out of them and they wouldn't budge all the way. I've removed the drums on another hatch before to change the wheel cylinders so I'm fairly familiar with the setup. So I'd like to either tighten the rear brakes thru the back of the hub or loosen them so I can get the drum off to tighten the shoes. If someone has diagrams that'd be great.

Thanks!
Megan

When the rear brakes get worn, they get a little lip on the drum that makes it hard to remove.....I searched and found someone who used bolts into those little holes to get the drum to come off.....I used some spare distributor mount bolts, they seemed to be the right size and thread pitch....good luck.....

Mine are too worn to do that. I can only get the drum off about half an inch, sorta cocked, and I can hear the spring inside totally stretching. Someone mentioned before that you can back off the shoes through the slot on the back of the hub, but I've search everywhere and cannot find any detailed information.

Heat your drums up with a propane torch then give a few smacks with hammer. works everytime for me.
