Oil pump came apart ony with 400 WHP.... any suggestions?
Well I have had a very scary experience with the oil pump from my little B16 engine, it broke in a million pieces....I was wondering if there is some kind of a mod anyone is doing or using a different gear like a prodrive, toda, etc... to solve this problem? My engine is a B16, putting 400 to the ground on just SC61, low compression pistons and crower rods, everything else is stock.
Hope someone has a solution for my question...

what timing belt pulley were you running? It wasn't a CTR was it?
My oil pump was fine at 400whp so its not the horespower, hell, others go even higher.
Did you regularly change the oil? Did the car burn oil? If so, I think it went low one too many times and friction finally did its damage. Was the oil pump the original or did you possibly put in a new one at any time?

I'm using a Prodrive on a 450 whp H22 but a number of builders swear by the stock pump. Was yours new? Were you using the stock crank pulley/balancer or a lighter pulley?

What grade oil were you using? I've seen a few pumps die at even lower HP from using oil that is too thick. Too many people think just cause they have a turbo they need to run thick oil. Just an idea I wanted to throw out there. Sorry to hear about it.

10,500 rpms 20w50 oil, stock oil pump here.
From my experience, oil pump failures are from a crank pulley with no dampning, from a bad align bore or hone which moves the crank and crushes the oil pump, or from too loose bearing clearances.

Tire shake is another known killer of OEM pump.
