Default How to register my salvage ITR

Hi everyone. I am new to the forum, but i'm not new to Integra's. I have some question about registering my ITR, Hopefully ya can give me some suggestion.
I purchased a ITR shell 4 years ago at Milano Dismantle yard in Irwindale,CA. They didn't give me any title for the car and bill of sale. All they gave me was a hand written receipt. The owner of the shop said I'll be alright to register this car when I finish building it. So I purchased. The car been sitting in my driveway all this time, I never touched. Now I'm planning on putting it back together, but before I do that, I want to hear from some of ya and see is it really true about what he said. Can you really register a salvage car with no title or bill of sell? All I got is a stupid receipt, that anyone can write. I don't want to dump all my money restoring the car and later find out I can't drive it on the street. I did check the DMV site, and it said I will need a title or a bill of sale. Well what if I don't have either? Does that mean I got rip off? Please reply back with suggestion on what I should do. Thanks everyone.

BTW, Milano Dismantle Yard has already closed down for good.

Uh, doesnt the dismantle yard get a bill of sale when they get the vehicle? They should have provided you one. The only thing I can think of would be to take the VIN to the DMV and have them look up the last registered owner.

Your best bet would be to call your DMV headquarters and explain your situation. I am in a very similair boat right now trying to get an ITR that I recently rebuilt titled. I'm having some problems but I think with time I'll be able to get it titled.

That what I thought too. I guess I was too happy when I saw the ITR and I was'nt thinking about that . I believed everything he said. Well What if I found out who is the last owner is? What can I do then?

I did that too, 2 years ago. That junk yard is closed down. He opened another shop call Milano Auto, But not sure where it is.

I have a certificate of destruction title from the state of FL. I am located in South Carolina. I need to get the VIN cleared with the state of FL before I can register it in South Carolina. We do not have DVM inspections here.

How do you get a certificate of destruction title? Did it came with your ITR when you brought it? Anyways good luck on registering your ride.

waht you need to do now is hire a lien sales guy and he will help you get the pink slip. after that is done, you will need to go to DMV or CHP to get your vins vertify. after that you will also need smog and also brake and lamp inspection. after all this is done along with the paid fee you are set

i recently helped my friend do this

first you go to the dmv and tell them that you bought this car without a title and cannot find the owner.

their gonna "attempt" to contact the previous and send them letters saying this car is being sold..etc....

2 weeks later it clears and you go back and they tell you you need a lien.

OR, if you lucky go to a dealer and find out who was the previous owner and with their signature you could get it release, but i would leave it at non operational until you get it running.

im in the next city from you

to add to that, does he need to have all the airbags intact also and hooked up properly? I thought I heard that somewhere...

anyone? thoughts? Is that correct?

Would you happen to know where I can find a Lien sale guy?

Would my situation be different then your friend, since my car is salvage and it brought from a junk yard? I found the name of the previous owner on carfax, but how can I get in contact with him? Also you stated, I should leave it at non operational until I get it running. So are you saying I should'nt start building it, until I get some paper? Cause that what I was think too, I was kinda worry dumping all that money in and later find out it not drivable on the street. Would you happen to know under what circumstance, a salvage car won't be able to operate on the street again?

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by j3t1p &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">to add to that, does he need to have all the airbags intact also and hooked up properly? I thought I heard that somewhere...

CA DMV stated that on there web site. All car that originally equiped with airbag, must have it during inspection.

Thanks for all your reply guys.

exactly, i wouldn't start anything until you find out that is it able to get plates for street.

tell the dmv to give you their info and if they sign for it, that will make it way easier, if not the dmv will try to get in contact with the last person put a lien on the car, it takes about 3-4 weeks to complete.

salvage cars are able to be 100% street legal unless they put a non repairable on the title, call up different 2-3 dmvs, they are say different things, well thats what happend to my friend. weird.

jsut look for a lien service in your area. that person will need to take a look at the car and etc so yeah. if the car has a rebuildable/ salvaged title, you can fix it for the streets. only if the title is non repairable will not be able to in california. i dont think you need air bag stuff when they inspect the car...all they care for is that the vins are intact. when i went to register my integra, i was missing the passenger side airbag and i didnt cover it up. they didnt even take a look or said something about that also.

Hey i'm in the exact boat but thing is is that i was told it was a clean title. But Its salvg in another state though. I heard DMV dont have links with each other so i'm wondering how they will deciede wether it'll be a clean title or not. The person who sold it to me lied to me and now is acting shady not giving my any paper work or anything.

I heard that DMV may decide based on CHP inspection since they have no records of the car. DMV doesnt check carfax for some reason. But again i've only heard of this today from a friend who said they talked to a DMV worker. I need help also

damn...i'm going through sort of the same thing with my integra (not an R unfortunately). But i've been through a long and tiresome process with the DMV on registering a salvaged integra. Last step is to have the VIN verification at the DMV, and hopefully i'm good to go.

Lemme know if you have any questions, might be able to help you out.

Also, i remember the owner of Milano, Chris...i believe his name is. I think his new shop is in La Crescenta if i remember hearing that correctly. Off of La Crescenta Ave. i believe.

The DMV's are linked. I gave the South Carolina DMV the VIN of my Integra which was bought in FL and they told me right away over the phone it was a Certificate of Destruction title.

When I ran carfax, it should that my ITR was Salvaged in Arizona. Some how the car ended up in Los Angeles. Carfax still showed that my car is salvage though. I was'nt sure if it a re-buildable title or not though. So what are your plans now? How are you going to register your itr with no paper? I just what some idea's so I'll know what to do next. Thanks.

So you registered your Teg with no paper, and you went through with it? About Milano, Yes his name is Chris. I also seen his car in D1 before. It that Green Skyvia (R32 + S13). If worst come to worst, I'll just look in the yellow page for Milano Auto number, and see will it be too late to get a bill of sale from him. I just hope he still remember me.

Certificate or destruction title. Is that a rebuildable title?

Thats weird because i've asked literally the 4 DMV around my area and they've all confirmed that DMVs are not linked to each other. And everytime i called i asked atleast twice.
