a buddy of mine has an 03 tl type s and wants to remove the speed governor. is this possible? i've already emailed hondata and they said they don't have anything for this.

 

why would you want to go faster than 149mph? Car speed govenor is set there for a reason, most likely due to car starting to lift at higher speeds


The newer TL type S is capped at 137mph

the only way to remove the speed govenor is to reprogram the ECU as it is an electronic govenor

 

he just can't get enough i guess. not my car, just trying to help a friend out.

The ECU is not "flashable" on the 2nd gen TL's unfortunately. I'm not aware of upgraded ecus for those cars either, not entirely sure since I've never searched for one, but don't recall ever hearing of it.

 

Look into the Apex'i rev speed meter, it has a speed output which can be set to fool the ecu. This is how i got rid of the electronic governor in my Camry. HKS also sells a SLD speed limit defencer which may work as well and is about half the price.
