I am about to remove my Head (LoL) from the block in order to take my intake. I have not had any luck taking off the Intake so I have no other choice. I am just worried that I will screw something up but from the directions in my Helms manual it seems easy.
famous last words....haha, playing with the tensioner and gear side is just time consuming...

I guess I should. I am just getting tired of waiting for this car to run the way it is supposed to.
is this an sh?
because the base preludes you should be able to get the intake off fine. there is no need to take off the head.

One bolt on top is in a bad spot, its the 2nd one in from the passenger side.I can not seem to get it to turn with a 12 MM Rachet or wrench. Also the Car is so low that I am not able to jack it up and put up jack stands. The Intake is filthy and needs to be cleaned. I also got my EGR ports stucj in the holes. I was able to get 3 out with out taking off the intake the others will come out when I get the intake off.

one of the best things I bought for my car was a low profile jack with a completely flat lift point so I could put it under the "frame" and still get a jack stand under the jack stand point.
That will help you
I know they are hard to access but I just did this a month or so ago. Honestly if you just want to remove the intake just do that its so much more work to remover the head and try to get the timing correct and such.

That does not sound like a good idea.
You need a new headgasket, head bolts, all kinds of other gaskets, oil, coolant, probably timing belt, etc...
Then you will have to drain all the coolant, take off a whole bunch of crap, get some 1/2" tools for the head bolts, deal with rusted exhaust bolts/studs, unplug and mark a bunch of sensors (for reassembly), then you have to install a new headgasket, torque down all the bolts according to the Helms manual, re-set the timing, put all the other crap back in, plug the sensors back in, fill and bleed the coolant system and the list goes on...

dude dont pull the head. an intake mani is not that hard to get off
you dont need that special jack, you can use whatever jack you have. i use the stock scissor jack, put it under the pinch weld and raise it up enough to get my dads old *** jack under the center tow hook in front. come on now man...think

to the last post. Scissor jack is a nice combo to raise the car a few inches and get a hydro jack under there to get it the rest of the way. And those bottom intake manifold bolts are near impossible to get from above the car. Get a 12mm socket, ratchet and 3" and 6" extensions, and some combo of them will work to get all four bolts off on at a time. It's even harder to get those bolts back on from above, so you'll definitely need to get it jacked up anyway. ...Or maybe I just have big hands.
Goodluck
well I didn't say you needed the jack. I was just saying it was one of the best tools I bought for my garage. I did what you guys do for years. I used to have to drive the car onto blocks just to get a jack under. but now I can just throw that jack under and place the jack stands where they are supposed to be and put them high enough that I can fit easily and safely underneath.
And he isn't even having problems with the lower nuts because he hasn't started them. he is having problems with one of the ones on the top.

Thanks for all the good info. I will not pull the head, what I will most likely have to do now is push the car somewhere level and jack it up. I am going to try to put a jack under the "center tow hook" and see if that helps.
Thanks alot for the help!

dude, get a couple short pieces of 2x4, And drive up on them. Your jack will fit fine.
My car isnt even close to fitting without driving on blocks.

I can't drive the car until I get the intake off and get the plugs out of the intake manifold. That is way I am making a big deal about it.
jack up the car with the stock sissor jack, then stick a floor jack under it and jack it up the rest of the way. imo pulling the head to get the intake manifold off is not a good idea. thats like pulling out the engine so u can change the oil.

I will try it.
I got the other nut off the top of the intake. Now I only have 3 remaining on the bottom.
