Default All motor exhaust question

I just got my GSR swapped into my EK. I'm using a JDM DC 4-1 header and 2.5" piping all the way back to a stock 99 Si muffler. I prefer the look of the muffler since its stock and doesn't draw much attention. Generally speaking, its quiet under cruise and idle, a little raspy however under medium acceleration. WOT its not bad. I currently have no cat and no resonator. Does anyone have experience with stock mufflers? I would like to keep it, but I need the exhaust to not be quite as raspy. Would a glasspack make an effective resonator to remove the raspy sound?

All you need to do is put a res. in line somewhere
i have to res. in line on my jdm itr with itbs and i barelly hear the exhaust except at WOT. and it sound really nice i have and apex muffler
but anytime you dont have a res or cat you are going to get that raspy sound

Do you have any specific brands you reccomend? I don't want to waste money on something I don't need if you know what I mean. I checked out a flowmaster "hushpower" but they wanted $140. Seemed a little high to me. A glasspack was a mere $14, but they didn't have any 2.5" ones in stock.

When I had my shop, we use to install lots of Cherry Bomb/Thrush etc style glass packs to be used as a resonator. They all worked well and seemed to stand up quite well even though they were fairly cheap.

Yeah, thats what I had in mind since they are rather cheap. So long as they work, its fine by me.

x2 on the cherry bomb resonator. I'm using that too plus a custom 2.5 piping and kept my greddy muffler...My greddy sp exhaust had a 2.25 diameter tube and it's quite restricting but I like the stock'ish look and quiet sound.

Looks like I got other things to worry about. I don't know what the hell is up, but the car did 15.4 @ 91mph. Talk about an emarrasment. It doesn't feel that slow on the street. The exhaust note seems to have changed since the track, can't even hear Vtec anymore... and yes, it still works, I tested it. I'll worry about the resonator later. Perhaps the stock muffler is killing me, dunno.

Purchase a 22inch 2.5inch magnaflow resonator. Ditch the Si muffler, it's restrictive. Get either an ES oval 2.5inch muffler, or Magnaflow oval 2.5inch muffler. I purchased a 22inch, 2.5inch magnaflow resonator from Dave/SMSP. Great guy, shipped it to me within 3 days.
