Changed thermostat now car won't start! HELP! PICS INSIDE
Okay just change the thermostat in my 90 civic Si with d16a6 motor. Installation went fine until I tried to start it. The car tries to but just won't turn over. Any clues? Sounds like a hard start type problem(main relay type) but I don't think so. Thing is during the install I placed my hand near the throttle body area and something was loose. Dunno if I made it loose or if it was already loose. I will post pics and if somebody can tell me if they are supposed to be attached? Pics of their throttle body would be nice so I can reference.
Thanks

Close up

Moves freely. Don't know if it is supposed to be attached to cable of throttle body

All the way in forward position?
Thanks

edit: also check your ground from your battery to chassis to tranny that will cause a no start if its not grounded properly~

Uh no thats not for cruise control. That delays the throttle closing when you let off the gas and it is disconnected. I dont know why you're even asking since it should be ovbious, but see that little hook thing with a ring, just behind it? In the last pic, it's almost entirely behind it. Now go the rest of the way and open the throttle a bit and get that thing in the hole.
But they are correct, this won't cause your issue, but you do need that part connected. Make sure the dashpot is connected to a vaccum source as well.
Sounds like you forgot to hook up a ground or 3.

Thanks guys for all the help...I will check in the morning.
Just want to make sure that the car is starting(making noise) but not turning over.
As far as the throttle body/dash pot goes can anybody take a picture of how it is suppose to look?
Or send a e copy of the manual?
Thanks again guys

since you said you replaced the thermostat im going to agree and say that its the ground on the thermostat housing. ive seen this happen too many times
you dont need the dashpot, it just delays the closing of the throttle. newer cars dont even have them.
as soon as i read your thread title, i figured that the problem lies with the thermostat ground. i would check that first before anything else

</TD></TR></TABLE> thats correct...i had to do this when mine popped out but that isn't why the car isn't starting, it is probably the ground.
Also you don't need a dashpot...just nice if you have a working one ...

That's because the ECU does it electronically instead of relying on a dedicated, and obsolete vaccum system. I doubt he's running OBD2 so it should be hooked up.

You are correct! The car is still powered by a d16a6 but it is rebuilt by Comptech USA
Anyways thanks for all your help guys. Tighten the bolt two full turns and voila! Car started
Thanks again...now be on the lookout because I will be selling this thing in the for sale forums
