My girl was driving us home from dinner. I had been drinking and i don't drink and drive so i let her drive. Going down the road at about 43mph in a 45, we went around a corner and she moved over a little bit to avoid something in the road, well, when she moved over a little bit she dropped a wheel off the asphalt, and hit all the leaves. When she tried to pull it back on the road, the car launched left, she lifted on the throttle and over corrected, the car went back right off the road onto the leaves, she held it straight for a sec until we just slid into the ditch from all the leaves and no traction and nailed a tree with the RR quarter panel. After we hit the tree it spun us around facing the opposite direction in the lane. Now, the majority of this is going by what she said as i was a bit tipsy and i closed my eyes and braced myself when we went back towards the ditch into the trees.
The tree hit just behind the door, like right at the start of the rr quarter panel. Broke the rr knuckle/lca, whatever you want to call it. The inner cv joint was ripped out of it's socket, the abs sensor line was severed. She also broke the brake rotor in half. How the hell that happened, I have no idea. The wheel is totally smashed and is now sitting perpendicular to the car. Pass door has a small dent in it and the rf fender has little scratches on it from hitting the branches before we smacked the tree. Both bags deployed yet there is absolutely no damage to the front of the car or the drivers side and very minimal, all paint damage, to the rf fender. Neither one of us even touched the bags. Still a little curious as to why they went off. No glass broke, and when i looked at the car the next day, there appears to be no frame or structural damage. I was told it's fixable, as the damage is honestly not that bad but since both bags deployed they're saying it is most likely totalled. I should find out today what the insurance company says.
We were both ok, just a little sore but nothing big. I'll post picts around 4:30 today.
Anyways, so that was my weekend, hope your's was better.

glad to hear you both are ok... from the sounds of it its seems similar to to the damage that was done to mine but a lil less.....

 

They total yours or no? Also, do the honda front air bags go off only from front end collisions or do they go off based speed, impact etc... I'm wondering cause like i said, the front end didn't hit anything and even when the bags went off, we didn't come close to hitting them or anything. They basically went off and didn't do anything. just curious.

 

mine was totalled... do a search in here nad you can see the pics...
there are senors in the front and rear of the car that will shoot off the airbags.

 

Depending on the value I guess. Both airbags only add up to be roughly $1100.

Because you hit a tree at 40 mph... Im glad your ok though man... thats gotta be some scary ****... and props to you for not driving... if you were driving it could have been a lot worse... hope everything turns out ok...

 

what gear when the car start to loss control?

 

we were putting around in 4th but she had just dropped to 3rd because of the turn coming up. It's a pretty tight turn but nothing special, she just moved over to far and dropped a wheel, slid, over corrected twice and bam! the bad part is she is SUPER cautious driving it cause she knows it's the one ca i've wanted since high school, 7 years ago

why i get 2 different story? a girl panicking diff CAN NOT remember what gear shes in.. unless you were the one driving..

but that doesnt matter... hopefully you get your car fix and careful next time around...

i had my car totalled too and most of the time i would feel sorry when i see things like this happen.. but for some reason, i have mix emotions if i would believe your story... but i've been wrong many times ..

 

not being a smart *** but it's not hard for her to know she was driving in 4th gear and then down shifted to 3rd before the turn. She didn't panic untill after the car started sliding. Up to that point it was like any other time.
and if i did it, that car would look like a "V".
