Default Has the AP2 lost that ol' "vtec magic"?

I've been troling around internet land looking for road tests etc of the new AP2 S2000 (i say "new" but its been around a bit now) and i'm hearing that the vtec changeover in the F22 unit is now more of a "progresive surge" than the old "marked step" of the F20. Is this true!

I hope not! I remember when i was a young loon, youg dumb and full off... erm.. well we know the rest, and had NO IDEA what vtec was or how it worked. That was until a friend took me out in his B16A2 equiped EK Civic VTI. Needless to say i have never forgotten the smile that was put on my face as the cams switched from a burbling purr reminicent of any other jap shopping trolly to the most wonderfull ROAR i have heard this side of 8 cylinders!

Now i hear that the Honda has abandoned this slice of automotive bliss in favour of an almost undectectable change from regular cam profile to vtec heaven mode!

Say it isnt so!

Sorry to burst your bubble, yes it's true. The cross-over is not as apparent.

That's not a bad thing from a performance perspective, though. The distinct 'jump' that you're talking about is put there for just that reason, for you to notice it. Lowering it a little bit will not make it as apparent, but it will produce the same gains a little sooner.

Someone else that doesn't have an accounting final in half an hour will enlighten you to the physics of it

i know it's cool or whatever to feel vtec kick in, but that doesn't necessarily make the car go faster. i'd rather have a car that revved and drove smooth that won the race, than the one that had that "madd vt3c y0" feel when vtec kicked in but lost the race.

if you really want a kick, 100 shot of nitrous lol.

Yeah i guess Honda's chamged it for a reason. It still sounds fantastic, i didn't like it because of the "poweeerrrr" increase when vtec kicked in, i just LOVED the sound!

So i doubt very much that i'll be dissapointed with the change, nothing stays the same for very long eh?

Just take the top of the intake box off, you'll hear it then!

My Element hits VTEC and you'll never notice it. My AP2 hits Vtec and if you miss it, you're worst off than Hellen Keller.

I can't feel vtec with my ap1 anymore. In fact when i hit it, its just a noise maker.
but that could be do to the fact I'm boosted.

It escapes me right now as to whether the ap2 is vtec or i-vtec. I'm leaning towards vtec... anyway, all i-vtec systems use a variable cam gear on the intake cam, which makes it more of a gradual change from low to mid to upper rpm cam profiles. That's why you wouldn't really hear it kick in abruptly.

AP1 or AP2.. F20 or F22.... a S2000 is a S2000.... go with whatever you like... it's a preference deal....

Yea we know it's preference.

Take the airbox cover off if you want hear/feel vtec. Of course, don't leave it off though.

im sure your car isn't stock and im sure your mods help you to hear that,"wonderful roar" if you put the same mods on the ap2 i'm guessin you could get an even better roar!

i'm clueless and want to know why the s2000 didn't come with the i-vtec in stead of the old vtec.

I am a former ap1 owner, and now drive an 07. Yes the ap1's put you in the seat more when they hit vtech. The main reason is becaue ap2's have more low end power than the ap1's so the ap2 "feels" less powerful when vtech kicks in when in reality you are just making less of a power increase due to the increased low-end power in the ap2's. Did that make sense at all????
