Default replacing the master cylinder

i have never replaced the brake cylinder. I wanted to know if you guys had some advice or guidelines to watch out for when i do it. Is is just a matter of replacing the part and bleeding the breakes until theres no air in the lines?

you have to bench bleed it before the install or you will be pumping lots of air that is hard to get out into your lines.

dear dirty colombian (LOL)
bench bleed the master cylinder by running little tubes from the output nipples and looping them back into the reservoir. so you've got a little 'closed loop' system going on....

then you pump & pump the MC until you can't see any more bubbles coming out of the tubes into the reservoir.....the whole time you make sure to keep the reservoir about half full of fluid. it would help to hold the MC with a vise but i used my hip and braced it against my workbench.....whatever's clever

it depends on the symptoms you're having

ok what kinda symtoms should i be looking for? what i got is that the petal goes straight to the floor, you have to pump it for it to catch. Theres breaking fluid all over the master cylinder.

Usually that's the booster going bad, but if you're leaking fluid, I'd check the lines first.

to me it sounds like the seal(s) in your MC are shot, it's not holding pressure, so you have to pump the pedal to stop....

if the booster was bad you'd get a stiff pedal or a hiss

so its obviously leaking? from where?

test your booster:

and use a FLARENUT WRENCH when working on the brake lines. dont even THINK about using a regular 10mm open end wrench.

its leaking from the seals. I bought the rebuilt guide and fallowed the steps to check the booster, the booster is fine. My concern is if there is air in the lines, would it be a safer bet me taking it to the mechanic? of course i rather do it my self. Thanks everyone for your response to my newbie a$$ question.

Doesn't sound like the booster going bad. The point of the booster is to make it easier to apply the brakes. When it goes bad, the pedal becomes harder to push, it doesn't go to the floor.
