Default 1991 Civic EX sedan making odd noise shifting into 2nd gear

my brother just got a 91 civic and whenever he goes into second he says it sounds like his tires are starting to peel out, makes that feeling too.

i drove it myself and think its the transmission maybe, but it makes this almost grinding noise.

Has anyone else had this problem or know what it could be?

my brother got a good deal on it and i want to take care of anything right now before it gets to serious

start with draining the old gear lube, and add some fresh, or 10w30 will do the trick also..
