99Lude rear brake caliper pistons don't turn?
HI,
99lude 5sp I'm installing rotors and pads. Problem I have is caliper piston will not turn into the caliper housing allowing for new pad thickness. On ooneside I had to hammer the caliper off.the other came right off with no trouble.
You don't need any force to turn these right? The manual says to turm em clockwise so I am.
Any ideas?
Thanks

do you have the tool to compress the piston?

The rears do not compress, they screw in.
Uncap the MC and try harder..maybe get a bigger tool.

No they dont screw in they just turn. if there is no force they will just spin in place. You have to turn them and push at the same time which is what the rear brake tool does.

you cant even spin the with your hand. As they turn, the rear brake tool push against the other side of the caliper, pushing the caliper in as you spin it with the tool.

So it spins and pushes at the same time? That's cool....

Well spent most of today trying to turn the caliper pistion. even disconnected the brake hose and put caliper in a vise. Caliper must be bad it will. Put everything back together. The caliper did go over the old pads with no trouble (so i must have moved the pistion a bit, cause I had to lightly hammer it off when i began this project). Bled the one brake and once again the wheel on that side has some resistence to turn(like the brake is partially applied).
Guess it going into the shop for new calipers. I tried to get the park brake off the caliper, 2 bolts seem froze (nothing an air impact couldn't fix i bet) and there is some weird looks like a cotter pin and pin, but seems something more, setup that attached the cable to the caliper? Anyone know what attaches the cable to the caliper and how to get the *###% thing off???? I spent a fair while trying to figure this out. If i just break it can I get a replacement cable connection end easy enough ???
I just bought the car (guessed the maintenence was hit and miss, oh what a good guesser!). Well just think how much faster she'll go once the brakes aren't always applied!! on the drivers rearside.
Thanks all
