Urgent help needed, towing a 900RR on my TL-s from CO to OR in a week - where to rent a trailer ???
Hi
i'm moving for a 4 months contract job in Portland,OR . and i want to take the bike with me.
I called U-haul they said they rent bike trailer locally only.
i thought to install the hitch at U-haul.
1) Where can i find a trailer for rent ? or maybe buy one ??
2) What is the max speed that i can drive with a trailer ?
3) can it damage my car ?
thanks Dan

1. UHaul will let you tow the bigger open trailers one-way.
2. That depends on the state. If you are traveling through California, then the law states that you can not drive faster than 55mph, and must stay in the two right lanes. If there are only two lanes, then obviously you can use either.
3. Possibly, but most likely not. Just drive easy. Don't accelerate or brake hard.
I'm not sure what the max tow rating on the TL is, but I'm sure it's not more than 1500.

Sorry I fail to see how your thread about towing your bike has anything to do with what I said... And FYI my comment had nothing to do with the difficulty of towing a bike, but rather I am not a fan of that 900RR. It was a comment about him upgrading machinery, and purely in jest.

thanks .RJ for that link, i think U-haul installing the hitch for $104. i probably need to call again and ask what exactly included.
About the trailer , they told me they will rent me the 5x9 .
for a flat fee of $160 for 6 days. they wont rent for less days.
is that what we see on those pictures ? the 5x9 just looked to me heavy.
i found this link http://www.sportutilitytrailer...r.htm
seems like i can get a trailer there for around $400.
- GermanHondaSlayer - i love that bike.

The UHaul 5x9 is a brick. I think it's about 500-700 pounds empty.
You can get a small, lightweight trailer from Harbor Freight for about $200 after you put a rail or wood on it.
The advantage of renting is, you don't have to live with it! But for $160 for 6 days, it's worth considering the Harbor Freight model.
Ask if the wiring harness and draw bar and ball are included in the installation price. For $104, I doubt they will be. Mine cost $215 for hitch, wiring harness, ball, drawbar, install, and the $5 lifetime warranty.

I would honestly buy the trailer from harbor freight like marm said. It could come in handy when you move back and also its pretty cheap and gets good reviews from people
yes i am thinking to buy one. i think it will be useful in the long run.
but this one http://www.sportutilitytrailer...M.htm
seems ready to go. the "harbor freight" seems to require more work.
but with both i have a time problem. i don't know if it's possible to get one in a week.
i will do some phone calls tomorrow and see. I'm surprised i have hard time to find a local Colorado dealer that just sell them locally.
not to mention, registering it in the DMV , is that a long story ?

For registering your trailer, it would be best to check with your DMV. Just search "register" and "trailer" on their website.
In Cali, it's easy. All they want is your money.
If you're in a time-crunch, can you borrow someone's trailer?
