Default My new toy 1989 Honda Pilot

Not a motorcycle, but I am so happy that I had to mention it.

I have always wanted an Honda Odyssey. I never thought I would be lucky enough to find a Pilot locally that I could afford. I am currently 35 so this has been a long wait. Well 2 Fridays ago my cousin called me and told me he saw a 1989 Pilot for sale about 10 minutes from my house and that he got the phone number. I was slow to call because I just knew the guy would want $4000+ for it. I finally decided to call him the following Tuesday. The guy said $1500. I could have fell out my chair. I went to look at it on Wednesday and picked it up the next Friday for the $1500 asking price. I would rate it a 6 or 7 out of a 10. It does need a few repairs, but for $1500 I am happy as heck.

What kinda engine does it have back there? Mid-engine FTW! Any plans to mod it with a bike engine? That would make it a fun ride

SWEET FIND!!!

What needs to be done to make it 100%? How original is it?

Don't you love how Honda recycled the Odyssey and Pilot names?

It has a 400cc 2-stroke engine with a CVT tranny. It also has reverse. The roll cage is actually not all that big when you are trying to get out of it. I drove it for the first time yesterday on my parents farm. It was a blast. It started to rain and the worn rear tires makes for a scary ride at full throttle in the grass. I have read that they can go about 60 mph stock. It has a similar pull to my old 2001 Yamaha Raptor 660.

Things it needs are, front master brake cylinder rebuild, rear brake pads and possibly rotor, choke cable, parking brake cable, right rear fender, and right rear outer CV boot. It also needs new tires. I will be getting new wrist restraints as well to keep all my body parts inside just in case of a roll over.

These things sell for over $5000 on ebay. The guy I bought it from must not have known what he had. They only made the Pilot in 1989 and 1990 before they were discontinued becasue of poor sales. They sold for about $6000 back then which was a lot of money for that time period.

Once I get all the maintenance done I plan to get a new torque pipe, and send the cylinder and head off to ATVRACING for porting and rechambering.

Awesome deal man

My buddy has a 89 Pilot also, those things are an absolute blast to drive. He's got all kinds of money dumped into his, long-travel rear shocks, 500cc engine kit, etc... I'll try to get some pics next time I'm over there.

Wow that is really awesome man, you are right 6k new was probably a lot of money back then I mean new sports bikes weren't even going for that much, but it sounds like you got a great deal on it. I mean they say a running motorcycle is worth 1k bucks easy. It sounds like it doesn't really need too much, all of it will probably be an easy fix with the exception of the front brakes.
