Default Need towing tips

Im picking up a shell later today and it'll have to be towed. Uhaul has a dolley for fwd cars but the crx shell has expired tags and from what I know I can get pulled over since the two rear wheels are touching the roads. It's a 2 hour drive and with my luck im bound to run into a cop.

So Im thinking of renting this instead:

http://www.uhaul.com/guide/ind...sport

You think two people (one being my gf ) can push an engineless crx up one of these? The instruction manual also says to load the heaviest part of the car in first. Which side would that be in a crx without an engine?

You should be able to. If not, just get a come along at the local home depot or whatever and ratchet that bastard on there....

You would be okay with just a tow dolly, I used to rent them to people hauling gutted cars all the time. You would probably need an extra person or two to get the shell up onto an auto transport, they actually sit about 18 inches off the ground. It may not seem like much until you're trying to push a 1200 lb shell up the ramps, trust me. I used to work at UHaul but have also used their towing equipment for personal use. You can load the vehicle in any way you'd like, usually the engine would go in first, but in this case....

yea the dolly would be easiest as I only have to hook up the front tires. Im just scared the police will pull me over for towing a car with expired tags.

Some other problems I might have with the bed:
1) Lets say we push the car up...lol...how do I stop it? I guess have someone sit in the and apply the brakes just as it gets up?

2) Getting it off...hmm that sounds like fun too

I agree with the come along from home depot. Its a mini wench with a crank handle, cable with hooks on both ends, that's what my brother uses with his car trailer and we towed a big car up onto it on an uphill no problem. The are maybe 20-35 bucks, and you can have the come along to use on various things in the future, instead of a traffic ticket.

When you first say "come along", I thought you meant helpers from home depot

just hook that up to the rear tow hook and have your girl friend pull on the ratchet while you sit back and laugh.

seriously tho bring a few extra boards cuz of ground clearance you might scrape bottom or get stuck with out them.

I think we had 3 people push an EG shell on to my car hauler. It does take a little bit of momentum to get a rolling shell up the ramps. Just bring a friend along and have the seller help push too. Is your girlfriend strong enough?

You can use a winch or a ratcheting strap on the front tow hooks.

The U-Hual car hauler has a front wheel dip -- this will stop the car from going forward too quickly. The U-Haul ramps are very steep so you will need some speed to get it up the ramps.
