b16a2 engine swap questions and tips
My father and I are about to do our engine swap. Awhile back we bought a b16a2 motor to swap into my '88 crx si.
We already have several things like the axles, motor mounts, wireing harness, and the computer.
There's a few things, however, we aren't quiet sure of just yet. We want to make the swap as smooth as possible and as quick as well.
These are the questions my father has sent me in an email to post on here.
"Does an alternator from 88 crx si 1988 fit a civic si 99?
Does a starter from 88 crx si fit a civic si 99?
Does a clutch pressure plate from an 88 crx si fit a civic si 99?
Does a clutch from an 88 crx si fit a civic si 99?
Does the exhaust manifold from 88 fit 99 motor?"
Please answer them with your guys' knowledge and please do offer tips about the swap.
Thank you very much :]

my buddy sorry but not no no no no none of those things will work you need ls tranny together with cluch pressure plate and fly weel or get tha same trynny that comes with you b16a2 motor
Yea i kinda figured that was the case but i wasnt a 100% positive and i didnt want to lead you in the wrong direction. But there you have it. None of it works
the clutch depends on what tranny you use. any b series will bolt on to the motor.
i suggest that you find a cable tranny. if you get a y1/j1 tranny, you will need a 90-91 integra clutch kit. if you go with the ys1, you will need a 92-93 integra clutch. different spline count. if you use a hydro tranny, you will need a different tranny mount, conversion kit and a hydro clutch.
good luck

Does an alternator from 88 crx si 1988 fit a civic si 99? - No, and neither does the alternator bracket.
Does a starter from 88 crx si fit a civic si 99? - Nope
Does a clutch pressure plate from an 88 crx si fit a civic si 99? - No. You need the clutch/flywheel for the transmission you'll be using.
Does a clutch from an 88 crx si fit a civic si 99? - No.
Does the exhaust manifold from 88 fit 99 motor? - No. You need a B16 exhaust. I did the exact same swap just recently on my 89 Si. I used a B16 exhaust manifold, cut 4 inches out of the mid-pipe, rotated a little, welded it back together and still kept my stock exhaust. Fit great.

Hey man, sent you a PM, but you should really do some more searching. Honda-tech is a great resource for information...it's all been done. I just recently did the exact same swap in my 89 Si, as well as changing over to OBD1 and doing an Integra brake swap. I learned most of it by searching here. Check out the FAQs above for Ryan's B Swap How-to. It's a little different because your engine is OBD2, but the jist of it is the same.
Do some more homework, and don't jump into this until you have all your parts. A mistake I made that drew my swap out a lot longer than I hoped to.
Good luck.

I just got a b16a2 that I will swap into my 89 CRX Si and was a little confused as to which parts from the b16a will work for this swap. I have tried searching but since most people do the 1st gen b16a, the answers arent exactly clear for the b16a2. Could you give me a list of the parts you used for your swap and which car and/or company they came from??? thanks

Nothing really is compatible engine wise from a D to a B!
Alternator pulley is different, 3rib on crx to 4 rib on b16
Starter must be from a b engine like a civic or del sol
Anything clutch or tranny is not compatible from d series
Again, D series header doesn't line up on a B block.
