Default just failed smog... any smog gurus out there?

car is a 94 civic ex. completely stock. woke up this morning flushed motor with sea foam. i then changed oil, plugs, pcv valve.
right before taking it to the smog place i ran it hard for about 20 mins. an left the motor running right before test. an yet she still failed.
do any of you smog gurus have suggestions as to whats parts need to be replaced?

Your from cali, your screwed lol.
Replace your O2 sensor, and maybe even your map if your that desperate.

What other modifications have been done to your car? If you have a highflow cat, that would fail easier.
If anything just replace your CAT as a whole, thats a sure way to pass with no problems.

Those numbers dont look like a cat would help. When you did your seafoam did you make sure it wasnt smoking anymore before you took it to the smog place?

If your car is stock, just replace your actual CAT, its not too much $$.

Forget what i said bout O2 and MAP sensor, your cars stock, its fine.

another question. the system malfunction light also failed. does this mean the check engine light is burned out? and due to this, the car is throwing any codes?

CEL either it is on or not working. Check for codes or replace bulb.

I would say by the O2 readings...Cat.

you like to see 0.0 or 0.1 if possible

Great, enhanced location smog. You will never pass smog with a check engine light on. Low NOx and check engine light means running rich due to bad O2 sensor.

If the CEL is on it would be running rich because the ECU is in limp mode and is trying to save parts.

Go for cat then if you fail an O2s would be the next course of action. You can check out the O2 sensor easier than a cat.

Do you have any exhaust leaks anywhere?

well i guess im going to have to switch out that bulb. i bet the CEL is on but i just cant see it. i'll do that and cat and report back.

is the any write up on testing an o2 sensor?

as for the exhaust. i dont think there are any leaks. although when i put the sea foam in it looked like i might have had a leak at the header. but i think i just spilled some on the heat shield.

You have high CO AND HC components which means you're running rich. High HC means incomplete combustion so I'd also check your spark plug wires, cap and rotor, and timing before moving on to the more expensive O2 sensor.

aight the cap, rotor and wires could all be replaced. due to the high miles. i'll make sure to do that before buying that 02.

i'll keep you guys updated.

if i were you i wouldnt buy any new parts until you make sure you are not throwing a CEL....an open wire somewhere, unplugged sensor, etc. can be causing you to get a CEL and that will richen your fuel mixture and retard timing....retrieving the code will tell you whats wrong and where to start making changes...until you figure it out dont waste your money on parts you may not need

well, i was gunna check the cel but it wasnt going off, thus i didnt think it was throwing a code.

engine light was on.

i had to go to work so didnt get a chance to see what the codes were. will report back a lil later on this evening after i have the codes.
