Default Ahhh....maintanence

Well anyways my 02' S has been having some oil consumption problems and has been running terrible. After a few trips to the dealer I finally got everything figured out. So first of all I am told my valves need adjustment, they told me this is regular maintanence needed every 30k or so. I have owned other cars with VTEC and have never needed this before but they want 150 bucks so I am not terribly concerned. As for my oil problem they are going to do an oil consumption test and check the car in 1000 miles. Yes I do know that the S2000's can burn up to a quart every thousand miles, mine is burning more. I have put 4 quarts of Amsoil in the car in the last 3500 miles and when I dropped the car off the oil level was low. If they do not find a problem or fix it I will purchase krankvent and see if that works. The most annoying thing that is wrong with my car is that the clutch needs to be replaced and I only have 54k on the car I am really upset about this because when I bought the car from the dealer I complained that the catch point was extremely high (this was about 9 months ago). The guy from the dealer told me it was fine, and now they are telling me they will not cover any of this cost. So have any of you guys got your clutch replaced at 54,000 miles?? The dealer wants $1600 to do replace the clutch I think this is too much. What do you guys think, $1600 too much and should I stick with the stock clutch? Oh yea and I need new tires..... so much for a vacation.

The clutch should be good up to 60-75k miles, depending on driver. $1600 is expensive for a clutch job, considering all the parts cost a little under $400.

The Krankvent might only help your problem a little bit. You didn't mention whether or not that was the first time you've used AMSOIL on your car or not; synthetics tend to have more detergents in them to dissolved the ash/gunk that's holding all your seals together. I don't think a valve job would affect your oil consumption problem directly.

This is my third oil change using Amsoil. I had been using Mobil 1 before with the same problems.

Both are full synthetics which coincide with my suspicions.

Hmmm...... the dealer never mentioned to me that synthetics could cause any sort of deteroiration. So would a solution to this problem be to replace the seals?

It doesn't deteriorate the seals itself, it dissolves the carbon buildups that sometimes help seal the seals and/or rings.

just replace the clutch yourself, you'll save a bunch of money and its good to get to know your car.

No blue smoke..... runs perfect especially after the valve adjustment, it just burns oil like crazy.

well if there is no smoke then it is probably not burning oil its leaking it. check the ground after your car has been sitting. check valve cover seals, headgaskets, anywhere a leak could be.

I have never seen any sort of oil on the ground after my car has been sitting for a while. This whole oil burning this is a mystery for me!
