brakes overheating sometimes could have a smell similar to burning clutch.

i have the same smell on my 01 GSR...thought it was the oil, changed it, didnt work...

then i had a faulty oil pan gasket...changed that and it still didnt go away...

the smell is around the master brake cylinder...so im still tryna find out what it is...

but it doesnt bother the performance of the car...weird..

I experienced the same problem. I honestly still don't know what it is. This only happens to me when I redline/high RPM it a few times. People told me it was the brakes.

The smell could be a lot of things depending on how your car is setup. Like for instance if your lowered to low you can get tire rub which will make that burnt smell. The most common smell would be burning oil and this can be caused in a number of places where a leak could be present. I suggest just looking over everything and checking to see if there is a leak at all. I was lucky when I bought my teg because I had and still have 0 leaks. Sorry I can't be of more help but all I can say is that oil burning is the normal problem for people so check your hose's or anything that holds fluid as I'm sure that something is leaking somewhere.

i dont think it is because its lowered..there wasnt any smell before..
and my car is complete stock (2001 gsr).
how do u know if there is an oil leak? cause there isnt any oil dripping on the ground. so maybe oil change?

and if it is the brakes..how would u go about fixing it?

oil on the ground isn't the only way to tell an oil leak... you could be leaking it slightly say around your head from the head gasket and it burns as it fry's on the block or the headers. there's many ways that oil can burn like it could be burning in your cat. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 96ls &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">i also get a similar smell out of my 96 ls. but it only started after i put my intake on, when i redlinr the car it sometimes smells like new exhaust..but it doesn't hurt anything. i think its weird, but its not hurting anything yet..</TD></TR></TABLE>
The reason you get the smell is because you have oil burning in your exhaust system somewhere most likely its building up in your cat thus the smell soon if you keep it up you'll start to get smoke and actual sputters of oil coming out your muffler.
