Cold start issue and High starting idle
I have been having a problem now for the past few months. We I start the car for the first time in the morning after a night of it sitting it starts very rough. the engine will turn over about 3-4 times then start hesitantly as if there is a fuel delivery problem. however, if i were to park the car and come out and start it up a few hours later it fires right up no problem.
on top of that the car will sit at high idle around 1500-2000 rpms until it warms up,. i would think that this is normal if it were 30 degrees out like it was a few months ago, but now when i go to start the car its around 70 degrees out.
I have done some reading on this and some people suggest that its either the coolant temp sensor or the intake temp sensor that is faulty.
that at startup it is restricting the amount of fuel, or introducing too much air to the mixture at start.

I just wanted to know if anyone can confirm this or has any other ideas.
Thanks in advance

Try running a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in there and make sure you have replaced the fuel filter recently.
The high idle is fine, the car has a Fast Idle Thermal Valve which makes it idle high to warm the car up faster. As long as it doesn't idle high after it has warmed up, you're fine.

I just the other day ran a bottle of fuel injector cleaner so I dont think its that. I might have to put another bottle in or two. The fuel filer was replaced around this time last year.
I have a similar problem with the rough idle at cold start every now and then, if I figure it out I'll let you know. Other than making sure the injectors are clean and the filter is good, the pump could possibly be going, or something else unforseen.
I'll post up when I figure it out.

id appreciate it. tonight or tomorrow i am going to purchase a new coolant temp sensor and try that out. ill post with my results as well.
now when it comes to fuel pumps, do they slowly go or do they just die?

Hey what do you know? I'm going through that same issue w/ my '01 SH. I should be getting it back from the shop today. They're fairly good so they might be able to figure it out.....
I do know that it seems like the car isn't getting enough fuel somehow? I'm not sure why only when it's on cold(er) mornings. Everthing is pretty much computer controlled in that car, otherwise I'd say it was the cold start valve or thermo time switch? I'll post again tonight (well, assuming I get by car back today, which I should) hopefully with some sort of answer...............

Anybody else have any input don't be shy.......... it's an annoying problem.

Sooo.... long story short it was a vaccuum hose problem.
More directly it was the hoses that went to the intake. The intake was not properly adjusting itself.
The previous owner had taken the volume control off the intake (the big plastic piece near the front right tire) and I guess he screwed up all the hoses that he took off.
There were some going to wrong nipples and some not going anywhere.
The shop said once they had configured the hoses per the factory diagram, the car started better then ever. (please note: even when warm, the car would still choke for a second before it started) I guess tomarrow is the real test since it will be a true cold start, but, I'm pretty sure they fixed the problem. I always had a bad feeling about that piece being taken out of there....... oh well...... as of today I have an AEM V2 installed in there anyway........
I guess it was air and not fuel.......but in terms of fire, I guess they both are of equal value.
I don't know if your problem is the same, but, hopefully it's something as simple as vaccuum hoses?
Hope this helps? Good luck!

i also have the resonator out of my car, it could be vacuum related, i know that i have a leak b/c every time i change gears when i am romping on the throttle i hear a pshhht sound, and unfortunately im not running a turbo with a bov. ill check it out this weekend, i am replacing all of my hoses anyways. thanks for the input, hope all went well this morning with the start.
