I just purchased an A/C setup off eBay for my 93 DX Hatch. Everything installed great except for one snafu. The A/C thermostat (on the evaporator box) electrical connection is three wires. There is only one connector on my wiring harness which is possible to plug in here, but it's only two wires. I'm guessing there was a slight change in the thermostat from year to year, but I don't know for sure.

Does anyone know if my theory is correct? Can anyone with a 93 Civic with A/C pull their glove box (two bolts, 15 minutes max) and confirm I'm looking at the correct plug?

hey im putting in a ac myself same problembut i did find a wire at the right side of the passenger foot well its located next to the ecu code plug. but can you give me a run down of how you installed your lines did you clean them if so how?and what about the refigant oil did you add any to compressor and drier?if so how?or if anyone knows a complete list on how to put the ac together i did read that big thread which was informative but specifically list every step for install

 

I ordered a new evaporator setup off eBay. The picture appears to have the correct connector.

I just installed all the pieces (PITA) then I'll be taking it to a shop to be recharged. I read the article on recharging, but I'd rather have a shop deal with it. I checked with a local shop and the owner didn't seem to care that the history (R134/R12) was unknown and said that there are newer oils that are compatible with both refrigerants.

The lines can only go in one spot, so it's not too challenging. A diagram (I found one on this site, but don't remember where) of the A/C system helps.

The only thing left for me is that I don't know exactly how the wiring is routed in the engine compartment. ???

My new evap should be here this coming week. I"ll let you know what I find out.

 

so you ordered a r12 evaporator? i found a connector that would fit the r134 evapoator but im not sure if that connector would work i also have the 2 pin connector right where the evaporater lines up but there is a 3 pin connector all the way on the right next to the ecu plug that reads the codes

 

I ordered a 92 evaporator which came with the CORRECT two pin AC thermostat. But there was another problem. The 92 evaporator core wasn't compatible with the rest of my AC hard lines. So I ended up pulling the thermostat off the 92 evap and installing in the same location on the other (later) evap. Now I have an evap that fits with my hard lines and hooks up to my wiring harness. Now to just get it charged.

 

you only add oil to the compressor. What kind of engine do you guys have? I need a AC Compressor bracket that mounts my 93 AC compressor onto my 99 B16 block

 

turbocivic u need a compressor mount from a delsol. blur i was thinking the same thing was it easy to install the 92 thermo did you have to open up the evap or did you just switch the connector?

 

thnx for your help. my car is a 93 civic coupe I bought the evaporator from honda. the expansion value should be the same along wit the thermo.

 

The therostat was really easy to install. The later style is electronic (a wire) the early (93) style is a copper probe. In both cases it's just a matter of sliding it into place. The probe just slips in between a few fins. Very straightforward once you have it in your hands.

 

blur let me know how switching the thermo works in ur setup and if your ac is cold after you go to the shop ill mostlikely do the same or may switch the whole hareness
