Noise in the transmission (help)
Hey everyone,
Yesterday i was driving home and i notice a weird noise
I notice it happens when accelerating past 4K.
It doesn't happen before 4K, and it doesn't sound like it does it when decelerating.
it will do it no matter what throttle % i am at.
but at higher RPM it becomes harder to hear due to the intake/exhaust
I know its not a clutch buzz (i have a MY00)
I definitely know what that sounds like.
Last weekend i did take the car to the track.
That is the only really ab normal situation the car has been.
I did abuse the car a little (launching at 6k) but it was fine for the whole week.
but i am sure the car can take that abuse.
The car is fairly stock (see sig for mod's)
The noise isnt loud at all, it sort of sounds like something is rattling
but i cant see how it can happen in every gear at a certain RPM.
I some what think it might be the throw out bearing.
I am going to double check the tranny fluid tomorrow
It currently has Redline MT-90 tranny fluid.
The sound is coming from the tranny tunnel (under the center console)
I tired to rev it at a still, and i believe i might hear it slightly.
but not as loud, as if i was under a load.
Any opinions, comments, advice appreciated

I hope that's it. i plan on checking for things that could be vibrating....
Right after i decide i am going to sell the S2K, something like this happens..
But i dont think its serious.
If i cant figure what the noise is, i might take it to honda.
but the dealer might try to say something stupid like i need a new tranny..

I wish i could hear the rattle at a still, then i could just rev the engine under the hood and see where the noise is coming from. but its only loud enough to hear when i am driving...
Id like to get what ever it is fixed before i sell the car.
The car runs good an strong... no signs of any thing wrong.. other then the noise

MT-90 is rated as 75w90.
Honda MT fluid is equivalent to 10w30 motor oil. Your owners manual should say that as well.
I hope you haven't fubared your tranny.
Good luck with that one.

pull the shifter out to ensure it isnt the plastic cap at the end.. those things wear/crack and will cause some rattling....

Just put the car on a lift and start with the things that don't cost anything. Check the exhaust systems (Exhaust,Cat,Header) which I think will be the culprit to your rattling. Becuase of the fact you hear it when revving at a still when your not in gear.
So i jacked up the car today..
And in my garage it's hard to hear the noise.. due to the exuast system and the engine.
I was under the car for a while, and i could not find any thing that i thought could be the cause of the rattle.
I sort of think maybe its the clutch.... cuz even when just reving the engine.
The clutch will spin...
But i am thinking i might take it to the dealer, and see what they think.
But i really dont know what to do. The car was going to be sold in these couple days.
And i would really like to fix this issue before selling the car...
This is so frustrating..
And i know i am going to miss this car alot, i thought about just keeping it.
and fixing the issue (and i wouldnt have to rush) but i think its best that i part with the car.

So i took the car to Honda dealer today...
They checked the plastic clip (shifter)
And also checked any heat shields or any thing that could be rattling.
It was a 40 dollar diagnostic fee (30mins) labor rate is like 79.00 hr
Still has the noise, they said they would need about 2 more hours to check whats wrong with the car. (probably take the tranny off) (so another 160.00 bucks)
They said something to me about the clutch buzz, but i already knew about that.
I am debating if i should replace the clutch.
I am not sure if its even worth me doing, since i am selling the car.
I don't mind spending about 300.00 or so on a clutch, cuz i can do it on my own.
but i would hate to put a clutch in, and it still have the noise
