So I just bought my 02 RSX-S about 3 weeks ago from carmax. Had it in the shop to have some cosmetic things done, head cover gasket replaced, 02 sensor replaced, and had them check 3rd gear as it was popping out. They told me the synchros needed to be replaced, and as I recall they should have a memo or w/e the form is called that issues the correct fix for that problem. (02 and 03 only). They told me 3rd gear synchros were bad, so they replaced them. Everything cost around $1600!! Glad this is warranty work, I dont have to pay a cent!
So the gears seem much smoother, but some gears and 3rd too feel stiff. (I know this is common when doing transmission work) Do the synchros need to be broken in? 3rd gear has popped on me but I think its because it stiff and I didn't push it all the way in. Should I just give it time to break in, or should I mention it again? warranty is almost up.
Thanks,
-Caleb

hey man, i drive an 03 and am having the same problems, like it doesnt go all the way into gear sometimes. thanks for posting now i know what to do. did you have a dealership do it for you?
lol sounds like what happened to me...from when i first bought my car. I took it to the dealership and they fixed the syncros. Well i drove my car and it didn't feel like when i bought it, like it used to suck into gear, it felt stiff. I'd say it's suppose to feel like that. i'd make sure that it doesn't pop out again and if it does i'd take it back and utilize the **** out of the warranty
. I know i did.. but mine is up already

I drove around some more, seems better. It just stiff, its obvious the synchros need to be broken in. If I think its doing the same thing as before, trust me they'll hear it. Carmax's service isn't like the stealerships, they never gave me hassle over 3rd gear. I just faintly noted it to them, I thought it was the fluid, they turn around and rebuild the transmission for free. Good service!
