on my 95 civic i had 2.25in piping running to an oval magnaflow muffler ... i had the piping custom bent at cole muffler.
anyway, i loved the sound of that muffler, imo it was the perfect ton, i couldnt have asked for a better sound, but i do wish it were a bit quieter. So with this summer arriving, i'll be buying a new exhaust for my 97 civic, but my question is: if i get the same exhaust as i did on my 95, only with a resonator, will the sound be the same but just quieter?

its hard to be certain that it will have the same tone but just quieter, but it is safe that it should. I used to have a magnaflow custom catback, just 2 1/4 piping with one of there mufflers, no resonator. My buddy had the same thing, he had resonator, sounded basically the same, but his was much quieter and had a throatier sound.

i loved the sound of mine .. but just when i got up to higher rpms that **** was loud .. i would just be nice if i could tone it down a bit
my friend has a z24 cavalier with the same muffler and stock piping .. and i can barely hear his sometimes .. but when i do it sounds like mine with a sputter .. but his is too quiet

What size piping and what inlet/outlet size on your muffler?
I have an ES muffler w/ resonator and I believe either 2 or 2.25 piping and its somewhat quiet. Have a nice tone to it.

and i had an oval muffler on my last car .. so i dunno if id have the same experience with the resonator not affecting it

Dynomax super turbo, i had a magnaflow straight through, and it was loud at high rpm, i got the dynomax super turbo welded on and its nice. I have a 16" magnaflow resonator, i shoulda went with a 22" to mellow it out more.
