Dave_B does CMP the video...
Yeah... finally got around to getting this thing up. Very short, shitty quality and not a lot of time/effort went into this...
Enjoy.

Car sounds good. Wai taught me not to take hands off the steering wheel during turns. I need to hit the track with you someday. I know next year, Brooke, my son, and myself will be at Expo regardless of where its at.
Nice job. Good to see you are finally getting out there.
Now, Splat's right...time to grow a pair
It will take some time before you get comfortable sliding the kaa around.
best tip - use the brakes...you are braking REALLY early & slow.

I have only been to CMP once, I think, in 2002. Now that you mention it, though, it seems to me the kink used to bounce a car over to the left a couple of feet, and a little harder than it seemed to be doing in the video.
Have they smoothed it out a little bit since 2002?
And now that I've thought about it some more, one of the scariest near misses I've ever seen was in the kink.
In 2002 the H2 races were always neck-and-neck between Corey Jacobs in his VTEC Prelude and Alex Ratcliffe in his Integra. There are some videos floating around of this near miss somewhere, but I'm not sure where.
They approached the kink with the blue Integra right on the rear bumper of the red Prelude. Hitting the kink at top speed, the Prelude's rear swung slightly, and the Integra thought he was going to spin, so the Integra lifted.
Next thing I see is a blue Integra heading straight for me, careening and swinging madly through the sandy soil like a barchetta in heavy swells.
He got it under control and stopped just in time, but it was very close.
I like CMP. It's a decent, fun track with a lot of turns. It doesn't get enough attention and it doesn't get big crowds because it is very slightly too far away for the DC-Virginia crowd.
Unless they've changed the paddock quite a bit since 2002, you have to bring your own shade, too! Kershaw SC in August is not a lot of fun in a paddock completely devoid of trees.
And if you're a visiting Yankee not at all familiar with fire ants, it might be a good idea to acquaint yourself before your arrival.

Yes yes... braking early and not hard enough... And yeah I was lifting at the kink...
T12 is where I can really make up time in braking. At the end of the second day, that's where I felt I needed the most improvement. Way early and way soft on them. However, I'll get another vid together shortly that actually has me going over the kink @ 115 (first time driving CMP BTW) and turning 2:02 laps (I heard that H2 record is 1:52.xxx) so for having street tires, first time at this track... I'd say I'm doing pretty decent.
I can't wait to "grow" some bigger "boys" and get back to CMP in Sept.

lots of dirt on the track in the corners, was it slippery?</TD></TR></TABLE>
If I am remembering CMP correctly, that is always going to happen because the gaters will tend to throw you outwards, and the ground is so sandy that some corners are always going to have the sandy dirt in them.
Lots of fun, lots of fun.

I'll need to watch your video when I get home from work.
I was at CMP Saturday. The weather was shitty, that's for sure.
I ran my car around the track during the 'fun runs' so I know what 'kink' you're talking about.
Someone told me the H1 cars were hitting 140 in the back straight.

I'm north of 130, but less than 140 before I puss out and lift for the kink...

Is that by radar at the track or speedometer in the car?
That's pretty speedy.

That's speedo reading, so +- 5 MPH or so...
I was also near that speed going into I think 8? First turn out of the carosel.
If your doing it right at that track, you can carry a lot of speed. Very rythmic track.

In the gas more? Meaning for braking? Because I'm all in it when I'm not on the brakes except for the carosel, which takes a bit of "finesse" (sp) of the steering input/throttle.
Tire squealin is hard to hear over the tunes and car. Trust me, I'd probably only be able to hear the "ping pang, your done with this thang" music of an engine blowing. Other than that, I can't even hear a communicator when I still had an instructor.
That said too, now I'm adjusting to the handling difference of no instructor and/or lowering of the car (forgot about that huh) I'm still getting used to this car now. Much different going from 1 day with instructor to the next without and this being the first time at this track. LOL. Also, it looks like I'm going slow due to the camera zoom. If you back it way up, so that you see the drivers hands/guages, it will appear as if he's driving slower. Same speed, same driver... closer to course it will seem like he's hauling more ***.
I'll also be getting some of the last session footage when I was starting to get more comfortable and was crossing the kink around 115 MPH.
Music choice was limited at the time. The person that helped with the editing was a guy in his 40's (mah bossman) and this was a quick, here ya guys go thing.
Anyway, had a blast. Will be back in Sept. and I can't wait for Expo.
