my DA has a little oxidation in the rear quarter panels. hoping i fix it without cutting and welding in a new quarter panel. let me know what you guys think




also a little rust around the spoiler bolts


and 1 spot in the driver door

 

If you want to do it right your going to have to at least cut out the rusted parts weld in new metal and smooth it out with filler and such. As for the spots of rust, you can probably grind them down.

 

thanks would i have to use a donor quarter panel or just some scrap sheet metal?

Either or, but if you get a donor quarter panel, may as well just throw it on

 

If you want it to last, cutting and welding is ur best bet. i had mine "fixed" which meant they used bondo to fix it and it came back in like 3 months.

This is true, and id agree, but a few of my friends have had this happen and we've ground all the rusted area down and used the fiberglass reinforced stuff, all of the 3 cars we've done this to on a time crunch are still good 3 or 4 years later. I think it all depends how much of the rust you clean up.

 

sorry to revive this old thread, but I have a similar issue around the rear 1/4 panel. It's rusting pretty bad. If I sand what I can, can I slap some rust bullet on it even if there is still some rust there? Then can I maybe bondo over this, then paint over the bondo?

It's a real bad eye sore....
