Default can I polish my fat 5's if it has a bit of corrosion going on?

I have the thread how to polish the wheels bit there are a few areas on the rims where they have gotten scratched in the past or chipped and have started to corrod (spelling lol). I want some new ones but other expenses have to be put first and I like the polished look better than stock. Will it be worth my time working on the wheels in this condition and what can I do after polishing to keep them from any corrosion in the future? Any help would be great.

depending oh how bad the rims may be.... start off with harsher grit sand paper ---> to a medium and then to a fine grit... hope this helps
