Default Question: Coilovers vs shocks and springs

As I understand it, a coilover suspension uses the strut (shock) and the spring (coil) all in one peice. So if you own a car with a shock and spring system, does that mean if you wanted to do a coil over, you wouldnt need your springs anymore?

Btw, I am at a loss of terms right now. Correct me if I am not saying the right terms here. (aka difference between shock and strut.

92-00 civics use shocks, not struts.

A "full coilover" is the shock/coilover attatched and are usually more expensive that a shock and spring or shock and coilover combo.

yes, if you had the stock shock/spring or an aftermarket shock/spring setup, and you wanted to replace it with something like tein ss or ksports you would remove both the existing shock and spring.

you will still need a spring for your car. coilovers is just an adjustable set up for your suspension. you adjust the spring height to raise or lower your car, original used for races.

the difference between a shock and strut is a shock is seperate from the spring.
a strut has the spring over it (which is totally different from a coilover setup).
but they both accomplish the same job.

Shocks

Struts

Same thing. The main different is that with shock the spring and shock are as one unit. And struts are struts are by itself and spring are my itself.

What did I do?

Christ, If I'm wrong I admit it. I try hard not to give misinformation.

I've never claimed my post count meant I knew a lot.
