Anyone every have there turbo glowing red hot??
that is pretty crazy
I am asking because my friend has a turbo hatch and we pulled over at a gas station because it was smoking alot and his manifold and his turbo where cherry red hot....we let it cool down and drove right home.
Is this a bad thing --what causes it not enough oil getting to the turbo???
i told him maybe he should check his oil feed line

This happens with almost all turbos. They are made to withstand this kind of heat. Don't worry about it. If you haven't seen your turbo glowing hot, it's because you've never popped your hood at night right after turning the engine off.

its in the turbo. some turbo are just oil cooled. and some are water and oil cooled the turbo has 2 passages around the center shaft so oil and water wont get mixed up
the water cooling comes from taping onto the coolent hose lines. if you are asking that

yeh some most factory turbo's run both oil and coolent to cool the turbo. and i think some aftermarket turbos do also.
tapping on to the coolent... i think most people use the line from the throttle body, but im not sure if theres anywhere else you could tap onto.
