I NEED HELP WITH THE VIN IN MY NEW EG DASH
i just got done replacing my EG brown dash with a black. Now my question what abut my vin number. I was thinking about taking my old off and putting it on my new black dash till one of my frien said that it was agaist the law. I called the DMV and all they did was place me on hold for 1:45. So them i called the police deparment and they were really no help they said that if the VIN# look like it waqs tamper with they could take my car in and strip search it.
This really sucks.
I know that other people have switch their dash before. What have they done???
by the way i live in Dallas Texas if thats of my halp

unfortunately the DMV is going to be the only people that can help you here.
and yes, it is illegal to remove/replace a vin number.
and no i have no idea what process is required...even in my own state
good luck man

get a drill drill out the two centers of the rivets becarefull not to drill out your vin plate the two rivet heqads should just fall off and then go to the new dash remove the old vin put the new one in its place and get a rivet gun and rivet it on the new dash measure the dash stock rivets first to see what size head they ar so the new ones can be the same size. if you do it right then they will never know the diff.
It is against the law to expletive around with the vin so no reputable shop will do it for you and if they are real ******** they will contact the athourities and tell them you are trying to tamper with a vin.

When I did my interior swap, I drilled the two rivets holding the plate on, then re-riveted the plate on the new dash.
Now, if somebody is questioning your VIN plate, pop your hood and have him check your firewall VIN (which will match up).

i think theres another way to do it but its prob way more work and you gonna need both dashboards out...if you look at the platic where the vin is located, that whole piece is screwed onto the dash...its similar to taking off your gray climate control bezel...just alot of screws and stuff....i never done it but i remember taking a look at some dash i had because i was curious on what to do as well, and thats what i noticed...good luck..

Of course, if you do a dash swap for a color change, that piece and the dash will be two different colors.

yes, but that piece will be all the way by the windshield...it wont be TOO noticeable...and you can always rattle can that piece but make sure the vin is covered (duh)...
of course the drive will notice the difference because he did the swap and he knows its 2 different colors....but to others, they have to be inspecting your vehicle for flaws in order to notice it..

just rivet it, what i did on my own personal car it can be done with ease and when i used to work at the dealership we used to do that also becuase the manufacturer WILL not print another vin #
No they will I have had it done before it is alot of work though and you need to keep in close contact with the insurance company as well as DMV and dealership as well they have to go over the purpose of the new vin if it was damged per say in an accident and the car is being salvaged they wll look it over with all three and decide if they see fgit to issue a new one and you personally cannot get it it has to be through a autobody repair shop
