Default Need clutch help !! (decisions decisions!!!)

The FAQ at the top of the page doesn't appear to have any info on clutches (I'll be honest, I didn't search thoroughly, but a CTRL+F warrented me nothing)

So I'm asking this question.

My clutch went out and I'm looking to replace it, right now she's mostly bolt ons T1R exhaust, JDM header, CAI. etc.

When it comes to clutch brands and pucks and organics and all that, I have no idea what to choose, or whats best for my setup, I read all about the exeddys, and it sounds like an exeddy stage II is good for me, but what other brands are out there? how do I compare clutches??

I autoX and ocasionally track her, she hasn't been to the drag strip, but I was thinking with a new strong clutch I'd try to hone my skills in.

I want something thats practical, I do a lot of city driving, but I also want it to be strong and reliable, with a bit stiffer than stock feel.

Also, do you think I should replace the flywheel while I'm at it? I've got the extra cash.

Check out the ACT HDSS.

IMO, I would change out the stock flywheel with a lighter one while you have everything apart.

I'm in the same boat as you right now, but I'm coming from an ACT 6-Puck disk. To be honest, I don't like it. It's a bit much for any sort of DD task too. I'm thinking of going the Exedy stage 1 organic route, but we'll see.

I don't know man, your clutch selection really impacts the way your car drives and feels. Don't shortchange yourself, but alot of the Stage II+ clutches are a little overkill for a stock R motor IMO.

Just my $0.02

for your flywheel.

I ordered 4 from them (or was it 3?) and they all came nicely boxed up and always arrived on time.

The flywheel will already be enough to change how your car reacts and feels. I like the Exedy stage II 3 puck THICK disc. There's a bit of shudder and it engages a bit quick...other than that, if you want easy driveability, just go back to stock and you and your wallet will be happy.

I like the Exedy Stage 1 organic

the pedal feel is stiffer than stock and I think its plenty for a stock ITR with bolt ons.

I'm using this clutch in my motor which makes 162 ft/lb of tq and its held up fine for the past 2 years

ACT has some decent clutch kits.

Right now, my R has the ACT Heavy Duty Pressure Plate with the Performance Street Disc and a lighter flywheel (but I can't remember which - previous owner put it on the car) and I really like it! I never knew the stock R clutch feel, but when I felt it in a friend's R, I hated it. This clutch setup is great - feels stiffer than stock, but it's not too stiff/an ultimate workout. I have yet to auto-x it, yet though, as I'm fixing other problems on the car, but yeah. Oh yeah, I've also put +40k miles on it.

Okay, so if I went with a Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel and Exeddy Organic Stage I - would that be a decent setup? Also, is the wear life on an aluminum flywheel shorter than stock? and is the Exeddy expected to hold up as long as stock?

thanks guys, I'll be ordering my parts this afternoon.

Oh, anyone have a recommended shop to buy an exedy clutch?

the stock clutch on mine held up to even the harshest punishment on track with 195whp and 128wtq going through it, personally i don't see the need for anything else on a lesser setup

I am close to this, I have around 192 whp and am still on the stock clutch. It's holding great and I'm not about to change it. Though the Excedy stage 1is a pretty good clutch, its basically stock. I would also look into the Excedy flywheel.

PM BlueR, he will get you a clutch and flywheel deal. He is awesome to deal with. I'm sure everyone on here will give him
