hydro tran, cable tran... dust ring question
this is kind of a 2 part question...
to the best of my knowledge after searching and reading for about 2-3 days straight what i understand it as is that what axles you use is based basically on what drivers side tranny seal you are using. ie
if you have a ys1 cable tranny you should be using 90-93 ls integra axles, and 90-93 LS intermediate shaft with the 90-93 drivers side tranny seal
AND if you are using a gsr hydro tranny you should be using 94+ gsr axles with 94+ gsr intermediate shaft because it has a 94+ gsr drivers side trans seal.
CORRECT?
and the real question is.. if the 94+ gsr hydro axles are longer why is it that you do not have to remove the dust shield on in the knuckle? (every one i hear from that is using 94+ gsr axles with their hydro tran that are using said corresponding axles parts say they did not remove their dust shield and there was no binding?
-and is it also correct that you can use 94+gsr axles in a cable trans as long as you use 94+ gsr intermediate shaft with 94+ gsr tranny seal

Yep u can. I've got a J1 Tranny, 94+ GSR shaft and a set of hybrid axles from Raxles. Had to install the 94+ driver's side seal. Didnt have to mess with any dust ring and it works like a charm. You just need to match the seal to the shaft that you have and the axles to your shaft.

but why is it that you usually take out the dust ring when using a 90-93 axle.. ? i mean they are shorter

Could be because the axle is bigger externally and touches the dust ring which messes things up because that part doesn't rotate with the axle. Didnt have a problem with mine.
