Stupid Question, does your air/defrost/etc ever turn off?
Man maybe I'm just missing something here, but its been bugging the hell out of me since I've had my car.
I can never turn all of the things off on the dash. Most cars you push the button once to turn on, and again to turn off, but the SI is not the case (well, at least my car isn't). You can only turn a button off by pushing another button, which means that one of those buttons is always on.
Is this just me, or are all SIs this way? If so, which one do you guys usually leave on? I opt for the defroster...

On older civic's there is a way to have the AC not come on with the defroster...
alot of people had this issue with the ep3's and it was bypass'd.
I'll look up the "how to" & see if it will work on the fg
however i dont really see the benefit of it since it defrosts so fast.

Well damn. But isn't it true that you lose performance when driving with the AC on (or defroster)? If this is the case, then since something is always on, aren't we technically not utilizing the full potential of the car? Granted this would be a MINISCULE amount of power, but still...

Don't put the AC on while going down the track.

If the **** is in the OFF postion turn on the recirculaute button. This will stop the air from coming through the vents. But like you said earlier one will always be on. I usally have have the recirculate on with the feet vent on. I heard that the defroster uses the compressor which burns more gas. Im probabley wrong about that though.

I pretty much most of the time just have the vent on my feet...for some reason it feels cold no matter how it is outside. I live in vegas and rarely use the actual AC

Yes the defroster and feet + defrost button will turn the A/C compressor on. For some reason the A/C light stays off, even though it's actually using it.
I usually leave it on feet, with the **** off when driving around unless I want heat or a/c.
Here are the instructions for disabling A/C defrost for the EP3. I've not tested it on my FG so if anyone wants to try it out...

1) Have the car turned off.
2) Turn ALL THE ***** to the left all the way (counter-clock-wise). *You really only need one of them turned, but I forget which one it is*
3) Hold the "back seat air circulation button" and the "a/c" button "DOWN". (don't touch the "defrost" button.)
4) Start the car with the "BUTTONS" held down, and wait for 7 seconds. *THE A/C or RECIRCULATION BUTTON WILL BLINK.....WAIT FOR IT TO STOP BLINKING* and release all buttons.
5) Turn off car.
6) Turn ON car, and test.
7) All done. You can turn the "A/C" off and on now.
P.S. To turn the original feature back on, repeat all steps, but for "STEP 2", turn the **** all the way to the "right" (clock-wise).</TD></TR></TABLE>

Here's some info: the defroster runs the compressor so that your windows don't fog. It is a safety feature and has been for many, many years on all makes of cars.
If you do not want the compressor on, select the vent outlet (arrow at face, top row), and turn off the AC buttons on the bottom row. Any fan speed you want will not turn on the compressor.
You can also select the feet or face and feet outlets. The compressor will not come on unless you press the AC, Max or Defroster buttoms along the bottom row.
Regardless of AC or heat or defroster being selected, turning the fan off also turns off the compressor. The compressor will NEVER run if the (inside) fan is off. The AC would blow up.

if your talking about the 4 bottom buttons(mex A/C, A/C, defrost and the recirculate button) they do turn off on the 07 4dr by pressing the button a second time. i tested it today because that sounded odd that one of them would always be on. The buttons that determin where the air is blowin on the other hand will always have one of them on.
