timing belt help
so my car was put in to the mech for them to look at cause i couldnt figure out what was wrong, anyways he said that the timing belt jumped and that i need to replace everything and that it is going to cost me $550ish. i am not about ready to pay that, can i do this myself? id so how? i think the reason my belt jumped is because i hit a bump on the highway really hard, i have shitty coils i havent got around to replacing yet... do i really need to swap the belt out or just put it back and make sure it has tension?
thanks.
thanks.
Here's a DIY on a Del Sol, may help. Search the site a bit, you'll find something.

It depends on how far off it was.
If it skipped enough to bend a valve, then the 550 includes rebuilding the whole head (which is needed). Though if he wants 550 for a new belt? Screw that, just buy a new tensioner (obviously the tensioner spring is weak if it skipped) and belt and throw 'em both on.

wow if there gonna do head work and replace the tensioner and belt then jesus thats a hell of a deal, might as will take my head there hahah..but i really doubt it... that head work would probably be another 500 or so .. GL man
i dont think anything bent, i really hope not... it happend pretty fast and i didnt hear anything that sounded bad, the car just kinda turned off i had the clutch in when it happend...

Plenty of write-ups around on timing belts.
Do it yourself. If the mechanic says you didn't bend anything you should just DIY.
$550 sounds about right for most shops to do a timing belt on an import. I know it's hanus.

Yes most likely, that may give you the general idea...that's why I said "search the site".
