Quiet Muffler
I know I'm a newbie, so hopefully I won't get flamed, but I am trying to find the quietest muffler possible. I don't care much if I lose a couple HP, I just want it as quiet as possible. I'm putting in a $5k stereo system, so I'm trying to keep the car as quiet as possible. Performance wise the car is stock. I was just curious to see if there is an alternative to buying an off the shelf replacement at autozone or the like. Also, will I be able to get something that has the flange so that it is just a bolt on job, or will I need to have it professionally installed? Thanks in advance!
Just take it to a muffler shop, they can fab something up for you.
And spending 5x as much as the car is worth on stereo equipment is a very bad idea IMO.

Depends on what you're into.
Some people spend 5x as much on making it faster, some spend it on making it show-worthy, some make it have a sweet sound system.

1. My car is worth more than $1,000
2. I did not spend $5,000 on my system; it is however worth that.
3. Car stereo equipment can easily be removed when transferring ownership of a vehicle.
4. You did not give me any advice pertaining to my question. Perhaps you should look for threads titled "Seeking personal opinions on the way I spend my time and money" and offer up your shallow, irrelevant ideas there.

There was my advice, take it or leave it. You don't have to like my opinions.

Stock if you want quiet.
Hooker Aerochambers are awesome mufflers, i'm not sure if they offer a fit for the 4th gen civic though.
I just read some about them, quite the muffler. If I tone the ell esse juan down Ill change to that.
If you want quiet just do an off the shelf replacement though. These are not the quiestest cars out there stock even though.

if you used the Search function, you would find the HUUUUUUUUUGE thread about crx exhausts.
this is probably the best exhaust thread i could find in 2 seconds of searching.

Ah yes, though it's the amps and controllers that boost the cost of quality systems.
The subs themselves are usually a fair price.
As for getting the exhaust quieter... no idea =]

this is just a thought but you could have two mufflers strung up in a line if you want. I've seen it done on old-school v8s that literally popped ear drums (I still get a crackling feeling in my ear when I'm chewing sometimes).
If you do your research there are 3 types of mufflers out there:
Restriction - they send the exhaust through tubes and tubes and tubes and it loses noise (good) and velocity (bad)
Absorption - they send the exhaust through a porous tube surrounded by a sound damper like a glasspack or... dirt (just kidding). A little more expensive but it gives it a wonderful tone and doesn't reduce flow
Noise cancellation - exhaust is sent into a chamber with a bunch of baffles that reflect sound waves (good) but slow down exhaust flow (bad)
If you do your research, find a few exhaust system manufacturers who use absorption and know a guy with an arc welder you would be looking at about a grand. Otherwise I would stick with OE, Honda knows what they're doing.
