Taillights.. 96-98 and 99-00
Im looking to change my taillights from the red/orange/clear oe style to the red/clear style.. but i dunno if i have to change from a 96 4dr to a 99 4dr.. or can i use the 2dr taillights? are they all interchangeable? or do i need to swap from the same model?
you cant use a 2dr coupe's tail lights, only 4 dr. Sorry!
This is the easiest "swap": Unbolt the few bolts, take out the old lights, put in the new ones, and bolt the new ones back in... You'll need a racket with a few deep socket sizes, not sure if they're 10mm or 12mm nuts.

well i'm guessing this question is for civics???
2 door tail lights will only work on 2 door tail lights. As for the 96 4dr civics and 99 4dr civic tail lights being compatiable?? i'm not too sure...bump...

If you plan to swap to 99-00, and your car is a sedan, you will also need the 99-00 trunk along with the tail lights.
The 99-00 sedan tail lights have orange, so you need to go aftermarket for the red/clear tail lights for a 96-98 sedan.

'99-'00 USDM sedan taillights still have amber in them.

If you have a '96-'98 Civic sedan you might want to call up a parts importer and see if they can get ahold of some Integra SJ taillights. Looking at them they look like they might fit. I haven't seen them on a Civic so far.
This model IS NOT the Integra we're used to seeing. It's based off of the 6th gen Civic sedan.

For those with '99-'00 sedans, the Philipines also has red/white sedan tailights for the '99-'00 sedan that come stock. At least the owner (lestah on ClubCivic) of this car said they were stock.

But I'm sure the Philippines ones will be a snap to find
The SJ tails will probably be a lot easier to find since most used JDM retailers have buyers in Japan .... I'm willing to bet zero have buyers in the Philippines.

Any company that deals in importing over JDM cars and parts should be able to find them.

Not a matter of finding the cars in Japan, but having interest in selling to US consumers. I hardly see any Integra SJ parts for sale, being that it is a 4-dr Civic, still... never seen those tail lights for sale.

Looks to the same to me.

im looking at this pic here, and if you look at the inter light thats on the trunk, you'll notice the bottom is longer then the top in length...

now, if you look at the SJ, you'll notice that both, bottom and top parts of the light are equal in length....

so thats why i said they wouldnt fit..

not if he has a 96-98, you only use the outer pieces and its a direct fit

Yeah, I guess since he's only looking for the red/clear look. I assumed you wanted him to do the whole conversion.

Companies that already import JDM parts will see it as a sale. I believe the market is there. LOTS of sedan owners would like to have the OEM red/white lights too.

Of course, but then there's more work involved. What if the owner likes the Civic trunk?

The top photo is a '99-'00 USDM Civic sedan. The '99-'00 Civic sedan taillights from the Philippines will fit it and be red/white. Look in the photo I posted above to see the red/white '99-'00 taillights from the Philippines.
The cars at the bottom is an Integra SJ. Those taillights will fit the '96-'98 USDM Civic sedan.
The more I look around, the more it seems that most overseas '96-'98 Civic sedans (and their similar models) have red/white taillights. I see them in the Philippines, Europe and Japan. The European and Japanese ones so far are the Integra SJ, but in the Philippines I see some that are Civic sedans with them. I'm not sure if this is for all of them though or if it's a mod.
So again, I'll go over it.
Trying to lessen confusion.
Remember though, this is just a selection of what is out there. There are MANY other Hondas based on the 6th gen Civic and other Civics we aren't all familiar with. So there are many many many OEM parts out there that most people aren't familiar with at all.
