Default Hmm, simple question(s)

I just finished riding my recruiter's '06 GSX-R 600. I've read a lot about everyone talking about the lack of power from 600's. I really did not feel a lack of power from this bike, and I'm pretty sure I could ride this around everyday pretty much without problem.

What brings about this "lack" of power for other people? I'm 145 pounds, and I just looked up the average American male's weight: 189.8 lbs. har Is it that extra 45 pounds that make a bike feel sluggish? Or is it just the bike in some cases?

600's are in no way slow...but ridden right after a 1000 they are.

Most 600's can keep up with 1000's to about 100mph, then after that the 600's just hit an invisible brick wall.

^^ +1.

im sure the 'lack of power' they're alluding to is the comparison to a liter bike.

The recruiter let you ride his bike? Is that a new tactic for them to get you in the service these days?

600's arent slow. They just lack the torque and top end of a liter bike. BUt they are by no means slow. Youll be fine on one.

The guy must be a fairly young recruiter. If I was recruiting, there'd be no way I'd let some 18 year old on my sportbike.

BTW, I'm going to stick with my Shadow 750 for a few years until my driving record clears up, then I'm getting a 600. Today's 600's are just about on the same level (except for roll-on accleration) as my old bike (1997 YZF1000R), I feel I don't really need the power of a 1000 cc bike.

600s aren't slow. But i'm sure there's a bunch of compensating numbskulls out there that would love to claim they are so they can feel "cooler" about owning a 1000.
When people see my bike the first question they always ask is "What size is it?"
When i tell them 650 about 80% their next question is "How come you didn't get the 750 or the 1000?"

Most people are just ignorant to the power of motorcycles and don't realize that a 600 is still faster than any car on the rode.

this was my old recruiter, he works in Bloomington now. I'm shipping out in July for the Navy, joined last August. Soooo yeah. There are a few retards that do show up, but tend to get weeded out sooner or later.

survival of the fittest... and Darwinian effects.

There is nothing slow about sixes, they are liter, and handle much better do to size and proportions related to the smaller size. What they do lack is that 120 mph+ power that one k's do not lack. They tend to be a little iffy for mid-larger sized guys over long riding periods due to the compactness in the sporting class... I also find the twins in this CC range, fairly weak in raw performance based on the fact that without the displacement and ability to rev at extreme RPM's, they can not manage to muster much output.

600cc is more than enough I don't care what kind of riding you do.

Yeah, but I still wouldn't do it.

I'll never touch a 600 again... liter v-twins, or 750-1000cc i4's for me

i think it really depends on what kind of riding you do. my 400 was more than enough for riding around town, but it ran into a wall at around 70mph
