Civic iPod Use
I was recently in my friends 06 Civic and she had her iPod connected to the 12 volt cigarette lighter with an adapter, and from what I saw it had no FM transmitter or anything of that sort, the car was reading through the 12 volt charger and it was able to be controlled by the dash/steering wheel and displayed song names and such info as well. It wasn't the iPod Link that runs from the glove box. Can anyone verify this works? (charges and plays with just that one cable)
from the cigarette lighter, that may just have been the charger if you saw no FM transmitter. you can only control the the music from your steering wheel if you get the iPod music link thing from honda.
you need a 2nd cable to go to the AUXilary plug. and the 1st to charge your ipod.
white = ipod charger black = aux cord

got my AUX cord from Radio Shack for less than 5$

I'll try to take a better look at it when I'm her car, but I'm pretty sure she didn't have the aux hooked up. Set up your way, can you control with the dash/steering wheel or just through the iPod? And I'm guessing it doesn't display song info on the dash right?
does anyone roughly kno how much the ipod adapter for the glove box costs? i was thinking about getting one because i have my police radar hooked up to my cig lighter nd i dont feel like plugging it in in the console
you can pick them up for under $200.. but I don't know that I would, because Honda discontinued them. They've been a bit glitchy. Honda and Apple are supposed to be working on a replacement

They have some "glitches" i guess you could call it but nothing serious...biggest issue in my opinion is not showing any text info on the screen. But as far as operation goes, i never came across any issues that would make me not want it.

showing the text info on screen was part of the device's advertised features.. Not showing the text sounds like a pretty big glitch IMO.. I really wanted one when I bought the car, but my dealership didn't know much about them. As I researched, I realized that the product wasn't everything it promised to be.
I can adjust volume on my steering wheel.. I really wanted the song info though, and less cables too.. on well.. I'm on the lookout for MusicLink 2.0

I never knew it was an advertised feature, less cables? theres only 2 of em lol. well i guess im not complaining cuz i didnt pay for mine.
I was gonna wait for 2.0 but my ipod went bu bye so i bought a sd card and card adapter and i wouldnt trade it for the world...unless ML 2.0 shows text on screen and doesnt take so long to update the ipod each time.

Mr Bill,
How do you like this setup? I saw it at the Apple Store and it looked like a pretty good set up for my 30g Video. What are some pros and cons of it, if you don't mind...

I am assuming you are using the SD card for you Navi and playing music off of that?

Bottom line - works very well as I've installed it.
PRO:
* Price/Performance ratio!
* Charges
* Keeps Nano securely located, within easy reach and can tell at a glance what "album" I'm listening to. Trivial to "next" tune.
* At that location, I can glance at it from time to time, operate the Nano controls from time to time, but it's still not in the way at all. (It's never obscured by the shifter, and it never gets in the way of the parking brake or shifter.)
* At stoplights can select playlist/album/shuffle.
* Aux taps off the docking port. This means I don't have to futz with the volume on the Nano at all. (Volume from head unit/steering wheel controls.)
* 90 degree short (8") 3.5 mm patch cable is *very* neat.
* Docks/Undocks trivially. Dock is *clearly* empty, thieves more likely to leave it.
CONS:
* The patch cable it came with was too long, too cheap, and not right angle.
* The "flex" is both not flexible enough and not stiff enough. I tried mounting the Nano upright and higher, and it bobbed in a very annoying way. Upside down solved that.
* Not as stealth as the "music link."
* It has a blue ring light. Argh. See Doonesbury this past weekend. (Upside down not so damn awful.)
* The Nano is too bright. At night I'd like to dim the background and/or sepia/red tone the display. (Hope someone from Apple is listening.) The "flex" is flexible enough that I can "aim" the bright light elsewhere and still see the display.
* I'm too old to read track info on such a tiny display at such a distance. "album" art rocks. With your Video iPod (and probably younger eyes) not as big an issue.
