currently dropped 2.5 front and back on coilovers with neuspeed springs. i think it started happening when i either took a sharp turn or went over a speed bump. i think i heard a scrapping or cracking noise when i went over the speed bump but i thought it was my header scrapping.

you coulda rubbed your tires on something metal in the frame, therefore cutting some of your tire, probably a shread of tire hitting against metal. otherwise its probably your axle

200 for parts and labor? if so then where did you go?

is this easy to replace by myself? loosen a couple bolts, take it out, put the new ones in and tighten bolts or is this complicated.

Here's a way to save some cash for now. Check to see if both boots are cracked and split opened, You'll obviously have to raise the car to check this. If you've been driving this way for quite a while, which it sounds like you have you'll see an immediate tell tale sign that the CV are beginning to weaken...GREASE splatter all over the inside of your wheel or into the underside of your motor and body. If your lucky only 1 will be damaged, if both are damaged you will have to go buy or just take it to a mechanic you can trust and have them replace. You can do it yourself but in the end your going to need an alignment so no matter how you look at it your going to be spending at least 200 - 300 green backs. CV joints aren't the cheapest part on your car because they are one of most important. Its time to get a Credit Card and go broke like the rest of us.

Your other problem could be that your upper control arm could be smacking into inside of your fenderwell because your slammed and you don't have any clearance for the arm to move up and down.. the only remedy is to cut into the area where your arm needs to flex up and down and weld some gussetts in that area you cut so they won't weaken. Its just simple geometry and you've really thrown yours off.

That's the worst advice I've ever heard. That's just not an option for some of us. Do what you want with your money, but don't tell others to go into debt like that.

How is that a price to pay? My car has been lowered (sometimes slammed) for 150,000 miles, and I've replaced my pass. side axle once, and my driver side one twice (not counting all the times I changed them because the axles were bad to begin with).

It was just a matter of speak. It's not like i'm puting a gun (credit card) to the poor guys head and demanding that he do it.. Your a smart guy for even replying this way...shows that you have common sense. If the guy is on a budget then hopefully he can figure out his own route and even find a friend whose done the CV replacement themselves and help him out...all he'd have to come up with is $$$ for parts no labor. ja know?

If it's clicking, your CV Joint is bad. Check to see if it's the inner or the outer, the boot should be ripped and there'll be grease all over if it happened recently.

i started my car up today to drive to school and i was going to head to the shop after. drove it not even a block down and i heard a THUMP. now everytime i let go of the clutch slowly while giving it alittle gas, my car makes a grinding/rattling noise.

i havent driven my car since the first incident when i first heard it clicking. its been sitting on my driveway for 2 days.

it seems to be rolling backwards fine since i did push it back to my house. cant really get it to go forward because the road is kinda slopped so i couldnt push it forward.

could something be wrong with my tranny/clutch? since it makes that rattling sound when i try to start off in first.

get under the car and have a look. That's the only way you'll be able to figure out anything for sure.
