Default Need some power for my 03 Civic EX

I am 16 and for my birthday i got my mom's 4 year old civic. I love the car; its fun to drive and the good MPG is awesome. As soon as she got it i was always keeping good car of it and making some mods such as new subs/stereo window tint, and ect. for when i got old enough. I am a car enthusiast, and i would love to get a little power under the hood to make it a little more peppy, and do some body work to make it look sleek. I had plans to get a cat-back, cold air or short ram, and on and on. I get a lot of my advice from my local racing community, 417 racing, and the honda guys say that putting any money in my D17 engine would be a waste. I think the V-tec is fun as hell to drive as it is, it doesnt have a high top end by any means but great little car. They recommend to start saving for a K series. Im lost and confused right now what to do with my car! I was expecting to get some advice for some good bolt ons. In the future i would like to do an engine swap, but for now i would like to play around with a little hp gain. Its dissapointing to hear that getting any power into my engine now is impossible, and instead just need to switch it out = /. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

1. Please use the search here on Honda-Tech, all of your questions have been answered before.
2. Standard bolt-on's do nothing for the D17, so all you'll get in exchange for hundreds of dollars, will be a change in engine noise.
3. The only way a D17 makes power, is with boost, and that can become quite costly, just as quickly as an engine swap.
4. The VTEC kick-in point is at 2700 rpms. If you can "feel" it at all, I'd be surprised.
5. I'll recommend what 417 recommends... a "K" swap.
