Default problem with standalone. i think this is the wrong section, but its a general question and you guys

...are smart

i have a 90 miata that is boosted and has a LINK ecu.

i only ask this in here because i feel that this section contains the best and brightest of honda-tech.

the car is not running right and the issue has been narrowed down to the ecu. with the top cover off of the ecu i can apply pressure to the circuit board an the car works properly. if i relase, the car doesnt run right.

this ecu has a keypad that connect to the ecu which has a read out of my rpms and so forth. when the ecu is running bad, i get a black screen on the keypad. when its running good, the keypad displays properly.

in other words, i poke the ecu board and the screen works/ the car runs right. i relase and the screen goes black/ car will idel but it is incapable of being driven.

i know this is a long shot but what would you say is the cause of this?

surely it has to be a bad solder joint, right? the board flexes and the bad joint touches and works right. the board goes back into normal position and it gets screwy.
doesnt that seem to make sense?

oh, and to keep this post legal for this thread. uhh, can i fabricate something to fix this problem?

i cant find any solder joints that look bad. im at wits end. any advice would be appreciated. thanks.

ya, it could very well be a bad solder joint. I would at least look it over and see if there is anything obvious.

hahaha. no flattery. this section is full of some of the best. by nature fabricators think outside of the box to rig stuff up. this is an unusual problem and needs some of that kind of thinking.

Sounds like a bad joint...or a broken trace or leg...

Tennis ball and a roll of duct tape should fix it right up

We had something similar to this happen with an AEM EMS. Whenever you hit a bump the car would cut out. Tap on the ECU and it would do the same thing. Got it replaced and it's been fine since.

If you cant find anything obvious you might take it to your local electronic repair shop. They can usually figure out stuff like that pretty easily
