o2 sensor wiring on a 1998 hx
Im trying to wire up a 4-wire o2 sensor on a 1998 hx with a ls swap. the 6-pin connector has 5 wires they are ylw/grn, blk, wht/blk, pink, and grn/blk. can anyone tell me how to wire it up? ive searched but not finding anything on the 96-98 hx's, thanks
I've got the service manual here and those colors aren't anywhere close to what's listed:
Primary O2 wht, grn/blk, blk/yel, blk/wht
Secondary O2 wht/red, grn/blk, blk/yel, blk/wht
The only 6 pin connector with 5 wires I can find goes to the EGR valve and has wht/blk, grn/blk, yel/blu, blk, and pink with pin 5 blocked.
Both O2 sensors should be going into 4 pin connectors.

damn i guess i am looking at the wrong plug
some shop did the wiring on this car and its pretty ghetto and im just trying to fix it, there is only one plug for the o2...i cant find the other one

What engine is the wiring harness from? I can look on my B18B and give you a hint if that's what you have. If the harness is pre-1996, there will only be one O2 connector.
HX connector is not 4-wire...you are looking at the right one (6pin, 5wire), unfortunately, all other o2's being 4 wire you either have to use an HX sensor, which should still work, or youre going to have to cut off the connector and wire on a standard 4-wire end, instead (I advise the first suggestion, rather than the latter)

This is an HX o2 sensor, so if youre looking at the wiring harness, you need to turn it around (mirror).
The first 2 top wires are your heater wires (standard black)
The last two, top wires are your sending wires, green and white.

Knowing that...This is a standard 4-wire o2

thanks man! well the pic you posted is a 8-pin connector...is there any way you can tell me the colors of the wires, i really dont want to mess this up...thanks alot man!!

its the only one i have actually, didnt even notice it was 8 wire
well you know which do what though...
edit**
my mistake, it is 8 pin, 7 wire
perhaps you do have the wrong connector, though i can imagine what else it could be

What was the original transmission in the car? '98 HX had a D16Y5 with either a manual or CVT tranny. Looks like the connector is different depending on the tranny it had. Either way, I think you are looking at the wrong connector. Looks like it'll either be a 4 or an 8 pin connector like the one pdiggitydogg posted. I kept the wiring harness with my B18B so I don't know first hand, just going by the shop manual.
ok here's how i did it:
engine harness= o2 sensor
grn/blk = grn
wht = wht
blk/wht = blk
blk = blk
The problem is i am still throwing a code 41.. its a brand new o2 sensor so i know its good...there are 2 blk wires and 2 white wires from the original hx plug, i tried switching them and still no luck, am i doing something wrong here?

I've got the shop manual open to the troubleshooting page for your code 41. You need an ohm meter to do a couple of tests to narrow down the problem. First make sure you didn't blow up your O2 sensor. With the ignition off, unplug the connector and on the O2 sensor side, you should measure 10-40 ohms between pins 3 and 4. If you don't, you need a new sensor.
If that checks out ok, check for continuity between pin 3 and ground, then pin 4 and ground. If there is, you need a new sensor.
If that's ok, turn the ignition on and check for voltage between pins 3 and 4 on the other connector going into the engine harness. Should be a female connector.
If no voltage:
See if there is voltage between pin 3 and ground. If there isn't, you might have a blown fuse or a short. If there is voltage, you might have an issue with the ECU.
If you need more details, I guess I can scan this page in for you. Don't know when I'll have time to do it though.
Good luck.
