Default ***NEED HELP CIVIC FUEL PUMP PROBLEM****

Hi
i am new to the forum and im form the UK

my 92 civic vti seems to be having problems, so can anyone help

the car is usually absolutely fine but some times the car stops moving, i mean the car is still on it hasnt turned off

the exhaust makes blowing noises

the rev counter start bouncing the car will be running for example 2000rev but it will move up and down for no reason

its as though theres no energy in the car

i can smell fumes from the exhaust quite a bit im sure thats not usual

i have been told that it could be the fuel pump but when i get to a mechanic it seems fine

happened two or three times now im driving and it starts playing up on me

can somebody help me out as it would be much appreciated

also you dont suppose if it is fuel pump that i could get a 92 prelude vtec fuel pump on the civic

THANKS

Lets take one step at a time....

When you say the exhaust makes blowing noise, what do you mean by that? Do the fumes smell sweetish at all?

If your RPM's are bouncing like that, it could be you IACV or FITV (although im not sure if that model has a FITV).

Give more info on at least those two things i pointed out.

right i have just had the car serviced three weeks ago

new spark plugs and filters

when i say blowing noise as in just a little spitting noise when i put my foot down on the accelerator, like a farting noise if you will

the fumes smell of like petrol its been like that since i got it which was a month ago, the middle pipe was cracked so i put a ful exhuast on could smell the petrol fumes then aswell

the car actually dirves and everything but out of the blue it messes up, usually when lower on fuel

thanks for your help

The bouncing of the rpms could be the fast idle air control valve or the iacv or it could be air in the coolant lines or it could be not enough coolant in the lines or it could mean you have a vacume leak somewhere like in the brake booster or a bad seal somewhere or a bad map sensor but usually its the fast idle air control valve or not enough coolant or bubbles in the coolant. The fumes could be the headers connected to the exhaust might be leaking from there or your running too rich you have a leak somewhere in the lines. If your check engine light is on look up the code .

No power, do a compression test on all the cylinders, If it stops moving and makes sounds it might be your clutch disc is already burned out and is rubbing it raw inside. Could be your clutch isn't grabbing. If the fuel pump works and fits on the civic it should haven't have a problem. The computer controls the amount of fuel going in . Sounds like your ride needs some tune ups lol

Right i put a new distributor off my other vti on to it and now it seems fine it sparks up a lot more efficiently and revs seem to be running sweeter, so hopfully should be ok now

I would say gt you distributor checked may be a fault inside it
